A Real Schedule

It is really cool to see us playing a real schedule. Arkansas Pine-Bluff and Sam Houston State and then it is all above par opponents.

Not in the History of SMU, have we had 5 quality teams coming to Moody (Memphis, Uconn, Temple, Cincy, Louisville). The only thing that would have been better was the original Big East schedule.

Playing a real schedule is not the issue to me however fun it will be. SMU being competitive in that schedule would be really cool. Football is playing a good schedule but it will be no fun if we are not winning.

I think they are fun if you are competitive. we are about to look REALLY uncompetitive in football.

Basketball feels really good - even before the top ten recruiting class coming our way.

pretty good schedule just because of the home/home with our AAC mates. This schedule rivals the schedule Sonny "Run Sonny Run" Allen put together for the 1977-'78 squad that took on # 2 KY, Kansas, Kansas State, Indiana and Mich State on the road and played Duke in Moody (pre coach K but that team had Gminski, Spanarkel & Banks). Texas and Arkansas were highy rated in those years and of course we had them home/home.

thinks are looking up for Mustang hoops

It is great to have a real schedule when your team (coaches/players) actually seems to be up to it.

How about 1984-1985 when we started 17-1. In that run we beat

Kentucky
North Carolina
Oklahoma St.
OU
Texas
Texas A&M
Arkansas
(until Lubbock-"where dreams go to die")

Thought SMU lost to Chaminade around Christmas time in Hawaii before the Tech loss

We lost to powerhouse UAPB last time we played them. Hopefully this team can turn that around.

UAPB has a decent team and looks like they have almost all of their team returning. Should be a good game to watch.

UAPB plays 10 straight underdog road games to open every season and prepare themselves for their conference. Most every year they are 0-10 when they start their conference play. The year we played them they were 1-9.

UAPB ended up 17-15 last year from what I read and if they do have a lot of their team returning they could be competitive. I would not overlook them.

If we cannot beat UAPB then we need to pack it in.
