Ranking Nation's Deepest Teams: ESPN

8. Southern Methodist Mustangs
It sounds crazy, but Larry Brown has plenty of depth. He returns all five starters -- forwards Jalen Jones and Shawn Williams, guards Nick Russell and Ryan Manuel as well as junior big man Cannen Cunningham. But the Mustangs add talented wing Keith Frazier, a top-50 recruit, as well as transfers Markus Kennedy (Villanova), Nik Moore (Illinois State) and Crandall Head (formerly at Illinois). Brown and his staff are also extremely high on junior college big man Yanick Moreira. Basically, last season’s starters could wind up being this season’s reserves for Brown.

That's pretty much dead on. It's cool that the likes of ESPN and others are so familiar with our team now.

Exterior hype is fine. From an interior standpoint I think we are pretty well grounded. I think the fans would be happy with any post season tournament with the tough schedule we have.

Outside of the hardcore fans I don't think most people realize that our starting 5 from last year would of won a heck of a lot more games with just a little depth. This will be a fun team team to watch this year.

Agreed. I don't remember us ever being blown out by anyone, including Memphis. We played pretty much every game tough and with a few points here and there, and we would have had a winning record with NO bench and no true PG.

Was very happy with team last year - well coached and played hard. We will shock some people this year!

You have to be an ESPN Insider, which I'm not, but here's the link...

I thinking maybe hiring Larry Brown was a good idea.

Kind of amazing that he had to beg to come here. The guy should have been everyone's first choice. How many other schools have their coaches mentioned for every open NBA job?

This thread made me ask: Why did Larry Brown pursue SMU? I can't remember what was said at the time.
