It'd be cool if we had an open scrimmage/practice for fans to come see. Maybe have it at Ellis Davis Fieldhouse or the Culwell Center. Invite local HS coaches and players to attend (although not sure what the NCAA rules are on who can be invite to something like that). Have the band show up and give away shirts and tickets to a few games this year. Introduce the players and then watch them practice/scrimmage. I bet we'd get a pretty nice turnout. Just a thought

We had an event last year for season ticket holders to an open practice. Plus schools like Kentucky and Kansas have midnight madness where everybody is invited.

Again, get the business school to come up with a marketing idea. Promote the hell out of it and we could get something started. We have got a very marketable product, we need to move on this now. It'd be nice to see us get proactive and think out of the box a little bit. Let's not sit on our hands and say we don't have the money to do anything. We've got smart people and smart students. Make something happen (Mustang Mania). Come up with solutions, not excuses. I hope the SMU powers that be, students and alums know how insanely lucky we were to have this situation fall in our lap. Having LB, his staff, this huge upgrade in talent and the renovation to what is one of the coolest bball venues in the country doesn't happen often, or ever.

I agree they should just hold an open practice. Don't make it a huge event, just give the people that care an opportunity to get an early look at the team.

You need to be careful though. You have to almost build your program and elevate interest before doing something like this. Late Night was around for years before Larry Brown brought it to Lawrence.

They need to have something that brings pretty much every undergrad to it. Really build excitement and an expectation that the students should be at the games. The new moody will be great but significant student attendance will elevate it to the next level, to one of the best college arenas in the nation.

Exactly. What's the point of having a nice stadium/arena if nobody is in it? (ie Ford)

There is actually now a Masters in Sports Management degree This would be a great idea for them to take on.

It could be a huge win-win for SMU and the students if done right. When I'm back in town I'm going to swing by the athletic department and bring it up.

I see a reference today to open practices in the email today from smu urging referrals...I did not know there were any open practices and if they are open, why do you need to refer ticket purchasers in order to attend. where does the team practice anyway...

Memphis, which usually sells out FedEx Forum with 18,000 seats, had this year's Midnight Madness last Friday at 7 p.m. Attendance was free, and estimated at 10k - 15k. Not a true Midnight Madness, but it was a great promotion for the program.

After giving it some thought, starting a midnight madness type event next year makes more sense. Build on this year's success and buzz we will create. We'll have Moody and we can introduce our prized recruit. Could have a lot of possibilities
