"If you were thinking of making a late jump on to the SMU bandwagon, act quickly, because if the Mustangs win their first few games to start the season, there won’t be any room left." - See more at: http://rushthecourt.net/2013/10/24/smu- ... gW5Zy.dpuf

Yeah, not sure who the Wright is he is confusing, apparently, with Frazier.

This is one of the longest and insightful articles I have read on our team from outside press. Of course he is arguing the flip side of "team on the rise" but good points, or at least tapping the brakes.

He has cherry picked the negative stats from last season and over emphasized our negative record in CUSA (without indicating how close the games were.)

While the upside is enormous the writer correctly points out that the team needs to gel. He also down plays how long our bench will ultimately be.

He has taken the flip-side of every positive argument.

He still missed a few spots

Hopefully this gets corrected this year.

"They turned the ball over at an alarming rate (313th nationally in TO%), rarely attempted any three-pointers (345th nationally in 3-point attempted %), and exacerbated the problem by shooting a below-average percentage on shots inside the arc."

What was our "halftime record" last year. I think last year may have been deceiving too. Too many minutes played not enough bench. This year is there a scholarship player that couldn't really play a competent role if asked to play. 40 Minutes of Hell. Run them into the ground- could win a few extra games by itself

Having Nic Moore alone will cut down on many of those turnovers.

Stallion, a bunch of those turnovers happened at the end of close games where we were ahead and cost us. A combination of lots of minutes and no true point guard.

This year will be different in lots of ways.

this year's squad will be 2 deep at every position (although a little light in the low post) and I expect a defensive intensity that we didn't see last year. That's going to make a big difference in how we finish games and I think we are going to see what having a hall of fame coach running your team can mean to a program

We are not 2 deep at point guard this year. Next year yes but not this year. Nic Moore is the only pure point guard we have so let's hope he does not get into a lot of foul trouble.

Manuel and Russell can both spot some minutes for the point if needed; obviously it is Nic Moore's position but when he needs a rest...

I know they can spot minutes but if Nic fouls out as we saw last year neither Russell nor Mauuel are true point guards. So we are not actually 2 deep at every position. Let's hope Nic stays out of foul trouble and only needs to be out for a short while for a rest.

Teams make title runs without "true" PGs. As long as Nic doesn't get hurt SMU will be fine.

Not that the statistic really means anything, except that you could extrapolate we had depth issues, but 23-9.

Right, but I don't think we have the team to make a run with a true PG imo. See last year.
