Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Big fan of Keith Frazier's game. Smooth, silky, quick release. More confident than anyone else on the court. Really dig the shoulder shrug at the free throw line. I just do not understand why Keith does not go to the bucket. Dunk the ball. Penetrate and dish. Move without the ball and free yourself around one or two picks. Other guys on our team Ryan Manuel and Nick Russell see to have no problem slashing to the basket. Even Nic Moore gets to the basket on occasion. It looks like Keith has the handles. Everytime I see Keith get the ball he jacks up a 3. Keith does not move well off the ball. I can only imagine that he is more than capable of moving well without the ball. What good does it do for Keith to just hang around the 3 point line. This does not really keep the court spread. If he was moving and then getting open behind the 3 point line, maybe this would cause the person guarding him to have to guard him. As is, right now Keith is not making his man work on defense. If you watch him on our possessions all I see Keith doing is sitting outside the 3 point line. I do not understand why. If he has all the skills that he has, is as confident as he is, it is time for Keith to take over the game. Really take over the game. Don't you think? He may be young. I can name about 10 other Freshman who are more than capable of taking over the game. We all know their names. Keith is definitely good enough, let's see it on the court. He may need more work on the defensive end. He may have a hurt ankle. I am not at practice. I just cannot understand why Keith does not take the ball to the basket. I can count one time this season when Keith took the ball to the basket. I do not get it. Why does Larry Brown not run the offense through Keith? I saw Keith dish a really nice assist to a big man down low in the Virginia game (I think the big missed the shot or was not ready for the assist). I understand completely that Keith is not a PG, and is definitely a SG, but Keith should touch the ball on every possession when he is in the game. Good things happen when he has the ball.
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!KF is playing unselfish and only takes open 3's. He had a dribble pull up shot yesterday that looked good. I see the plays called and KF does run the plays that are called. Coach Brown gets on him for just about every missed shot and might be over-coaching him imo. Because you don't want KF walking on eggshells on offense which might be happening.

Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!He had 3 steals, 3 assists, 7 points, and only one turnover last night. He is developing into a complete player. I expect to see him starting by the end of the year.
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!I also think he will be starting by conference time. Larry doesn't trust freshmen and is going to drill him to reach his potential.
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!
He will trust Mudiay and Mudiay will start from the beginning. I just hope he doesn't mess up Frazier by over coaching him. "We will play man to man and we will pick you up at the airport." - Larry Brown

Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Good posts guys! Maybe Coach Brown is riding Keith to help him become a great player. I don't know. But let's be honest, 7 pts, 3 assists, 3 steals is not taking over games. Any average college player can score 7 pts in one half. To Keith's credit 3 assists and 3 steals are very impressive given his minutes. Frazier should average 20+ points a game easy given his offensive abilities and touch. See JJ Reddick from Duke. Keith may not be JJ Reddick, but looking at his game he looks like he has more potential than JJ Reddick. Both were All-Americans, both had one of the quickest releases in all of college basketball, both were three point assassins. I don't know what JJ Reddick averaged as a Freshman but my guess is that he scored in double figures and got more offensive touches, moved better off the ball, and even took the ball to the rack on occasion.
Keith Frazier is a McDonald's All-American. We need him to play like one. See Jabari Parker at Duke, Andrew Wiggins at Kansas, Aaron Gordon at Arizona, Marcus Smart at Oklahoma State and Julius Randle at Kansas. These guys have no problem taking over games. No one is saying that Jabari Parker is being over coached by Coach K. No one is saying Bill Self is over coaching Andrew Wiggins. Sean Miller is not over coaching Aaron Gordon. Coach Cal is not over coaching Julius Randle. These guys show up game after game. Saying that Coach Brown is riding Keith might be a stretch. I can only imaging that Coach Brown is trying to get the best out of Keith. No one is saying Coach Brown is over coaching Nic Moore, Ryan Manuel or Yanick. Let's be honest with each other. We need more production from Keith. Frazier has the ability, the confidence, the drive. Not sure why the offense does not run through Frazier. He should touch the ball at least once every offensive possession. Become a triple threat. Take the ball to the basket and good things will happen. How many times have you dunked the ball this season? Other SMU Players seem to be able to get to the bucket. We have all seen your high school highlights. Yes this is college, not high school. Yes college players are much better than high school players. You are a McDonald's All-American. Take over. Move without the ball. Dunk the ball. Don't sit on the three point line waiting for a ball reversal. Call for an alley oop. Drive to the bucket. We are behind you! Can't wait for you to realize your potential. You are a stud! A true baller. We all see it! Time to play like it on every possession. Ready for you to step up! Pony up!
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Comparing KF to Jabari Parker is tough. Top three (in most rankings) vs #18? That's a big gap. Bobby Portis is averaging 10, Isaiah Hicks is averaging 1.6, Jarell Martin 7.3, etc. Have some realistic expectations for these kids. Jabari Parker...
Pony up!
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Thank you for your post. I really was not comparing Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Marcus Smart, Julius Randle, or Aaron Gordon to Keith Frazier. I was just recognizing that Frazier and each of these players were McDonald's All-Americans and none of these list of players has any trouble taking over games. Each comes to play every game. No one is saying that any of their coaches are over coaching them. As has been mentioned in this thread. They just show up game after game. When their team needs a basket they get the ball and they deliver.
Maybe a better comparison is JJ Reddick? I don't know. JJ Reddick was a McDonald's All-American, but was not ranked 1, 2, or 3 high school recruit in the nation coming out of college. Both Frazier and Reddick have quick releases, in the gym range, and the ability to take over games. Honestly I think that Frazier has the potential to be a better player than Reddick. (and I am not being a homer at all). I am the biggest Duke fan that you will ever meet. Frazier needs to become a triple threat. Frazier needs more touches. We really need to run the offense through Frazier. See JJ Reddick. There were few if any times down the floor that JJ Reddick did not touch the ball. Frazier has more ability than JJ Reddick. Anyone can sit out on the three point line waiting for a ball reversal or sit in the corner waiting to put up a 3 point shot. It took JJ Reddick 3 or 4 years to learn to take the ball to the rack. Frazier needs to take the ball to the basket. We all know he can do it. It is time to step up his game! We are rooting for you Keith! Hoping for a big game today! Pony Up!
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Jeryl Sasser and Quinton Ross were a whole lot more exciting their first years. But I guess they didn't have much talent surrounding them.
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!i think Frazier is coming into a more talented team - but he is now starting to show much better than Manuel - i would start him now - we can't afford any gifts coming into the league we are heading into. We need to beat A$M
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!
Manuel is pretty good on defense. I have no problem with giving him minutes. It is interesting that KF got a lot of playing time with the game on the line against UVA and ATM. Do unto others before they do unto you!!
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!i think you can see that as a hint of things to come very soon.
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!When ATM was shooting free throws and it was clear we would need a bucket to win, Larry had Frazier ready to sub. Aggy misses ft and we get rebound then basket, but I think that says a lot, too.
Interesting that he subbed Ryan in for him when we needed a stop, though (right after KF's 4th foul).
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!
agreed. not sure what it was about those teams but they were fun to watch
Re: Ready for Frazier to Step Up!Standup, does JJ reddick give you a boner or something?
![]() Also, you really should take the 12 seconds required to google "JJ Reddick Duke Stats" and post something of substance instead of guessing. Just advice for the future. FYI he had 15 ppg as a freshmen BOP - Providing insensitivity training for a politically correct world since 1989.
