Quit worrying about style points or close losses. It doesn't matter, a win is a win, a loss is a loss. Just cause you lose by 3 doesn't change the fact that you lost. Just the same as if you win by 3 doesn't make it any less of a win. The NCAA tournament committee is not going to go back through the record and go, "Oh, well SMU only beat UIC by 8 in December on the road, we should probably take that into consideration and count it as a half of a win." It does NOT matter. Sure, a route of a good team may look good but at the end of the day, it comes down to record, RPI, and quality wins.

Here's one more secret if you don't believe me, OSU barely beat American and Wyoming in one week at home. Somehow they went from #8 to #3 in the coaches poll...hmmm. It really does not matter, this route of Maryland tonight is not going to jump OSU to #1 just the same as a 1 point win was not going to drop them to #7.

All I'm trying to say is enjoy the SMU wins, quit overanalyzing. None of these games matter right now until January, they only matter if you lose because it then becomes an awful loss to a very bad RPI team. These games all need to be wins, nothing more, nothing less. Enjoy the ride, come back and worry when the team travels to UC.

I think some are just concerned that we might play like this in a game or two in conference play. I think everyone knows what you are saying we aren't ignorant fans. I know you aren't trying to talk down to us but we are allowed to be concerned about the play of this game. I haven't read anywhere that anyone posted that we might miss the NCAA tournament by only beating UIC by a few points tonight.

Exactly, it was a win, nothing more, nothing less. There is nothing to be concerned about today, that we didn't know about yesterday.

I know, but you're gonna drive yourself nuts. Just ain't worth it. If it makes you feel better, Buckeye fans do the same thing when they play poorly against a bad team at home. It just happens though. Just take the win, say thank you, and move onto the next....especially in these games that don't matter at all. These games can only hurt you, not help you, as long as you don't lose, they are meaningless is all I'm trying to say.

Nobody is going to drive themselves nuts. We are just discussing things. I know OSU fans probably do the same thing so don't act like we are doing something abnormal and you the experienced expert fan coming over to tell us beginner fans how to act. A lot of us have been around basketball longer than you have. After the Hostra game everyone will be fine.

I just think too much is being worried about stuff that doesn't matter as opposed to the end result. Has nothing to do with any expert or experience, I'm no expert anymore than anyone else posting, just being logical. That's my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. SMU won, let's bring on the next one

Side Note: Hoop made a good point in another thread, most good teams don't play on the road either in OOC. I doubt SMU will be on the road much in the OOC next year, teams will be trying to schedule SMU as opposed to the other way around. Being on the road is inherently going to be a bit tougher than in front of your own crowd no matter who the opponent is I think.

Looks like a tie in the ACC/B10 Challenge again. 6-6, Nebraska closed it out to even it up. Some good match-ups, surprises, lot of talent in the games. Happy tOSU got a win against the boys from Maryland, this team has been scaring me with their inability to put the ball in the bucket. Wasn't the case tonight.

let me remind everyone also that we have not had ANY home games yet this year. This team is playing every game on the road - Garland is dead as a door nail compared to what Moody will be.

Got news for you - we will play like this in several games in conference and get beat - and win some others also. Settle down.

right on, Ohio dude.

We need to win all of the games we should win (like tonight) and steal some we maybe shouldn't..that UVA loss kills me but whatever. I'd love to be 11-2 going into AAC play next month

I know, I think I've beat a horse dead about that UVA loss in regard to tournament and what it would've meant. I wanted that game so bad not only for you guys, but for the program in general. Really would have been a great OOC win to point to in March if the team is in the hunt. But shiz happens, just take care of the rest and head into conference play at the record you stated.

Good Grief Enuf already!!
I am so sick of the pontificating from two of you so called "basketball minds" !
If we want to discuss, we will discuss, if we want to worry we will worry. If we want to say we played fine tonight, or any night, fine.. ( and I do think we played fine tonight, being on the road, 4 games in six night, and lots of travel, and we still controlled the game).

But enough already, with the "oh, you need to temper your expectations BS! these threads do come off as very condescending.

Whatever bro, there is nothing to chill here, we just do not need to be told how to be fans. this thread is a total talk down to SMU fans.
We don't nned a thread for this, and certainly not a novella to make the point.

I appreciate the basketball insights from some of you, but lets not get too full of ourselves, ok?
