Thanks. It has the right link now. #HammerDown
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next Georgetown"An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame/SMU football game and doesn't care who wins" - Dwight David Eisenhower
Hail to the Red and the Blue. S...........M............U Moody Madness
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next Georgetownwhich gets mentioned more?
-smu football and the dp -larry brown and jumping jobs looks like a dead heat to me.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownVery interesting analogy. Georgetown --> SMU. We need to accept that we are not a big school with a huge alumni base. We need to somehow market our school to recruits and fans as a smaller, private, elite school with a strong commitment to education and athletics. Please let me stress "Elite and Strong Commitment".
When you think of Georgetown you think of "Basketball". It would be nice that when you think of SMU you think of Basketball. I really would not mind at all having SMU being known as a "Basketball School". I know that this is a work in progress... Wish that we could somehow reconnect with the Dallas/Fort Worth Area Fans, Coaches, Recruits, Alumni... Selling Out Moody Regularly! More local advertising. More coaches visiting local schools, AAU games. Coach Brown and his staff have done an incredible job giving our program an identity. Our Basketball Program is really starting to take shape and have an identity. Next step is somehow correlating our school with our Basketball Program on a National Scale and then joining an elite conference (Maybe a Basketball Only, See "Big East"). Definitely a work in progress. Very exciting!
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownOr how about we just do what TCU did with football and have a great hoops program. Yeah, that sounds nice. I don't want to be known as hoops school. I want to be known as the school with the best revenue sports program in the country.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownI understand your point of view, but don't we have to be realistic? We can all agree that Football is responsible most sports revenue for our school. Our Football Team is not pulling their weight.
We are not a large school. We are not in a Football Conference. We do not have a winning record. We are not a Top 25 Football Program. We have not signed a Top 25 Football Recruiting Class. We do not have a coveted Head Coach. We do not even have a legitimate QB to lead our Football Team. We do not have any true NFL Prospects on our current roster. I wish that things were different with our Football Program, but we have to accept reality. This has been our reality for some time now. Why not try a "Georgetown Basketball" Model? or some other variation.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next Georgetowni wish we could be great at both but smu seems to have lost interest in football.
it might be easier on all of us to concentrate on bball only. maybe we could join the big east.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownOne deep run in the tourney and you would see SMU and LB all over the media - and Dallas would come out in droves the next year.
Having moved away from Dallas almost 10 years ago, and being able to come back often and look at the city from 30,000 ft level - Dallas is a winner's town. They will support the heck out of you while you are trendy and cool and winning. The minute you slip up or become "uncool", you're done. All you have to do is look at the Mavs, Stars and Rangers. Mavs couldn't give away tickets when the Hat was running the show over at Reunion Arena. Once Cuban took over and started getting the marketing and the players and the AAC- it became the coolest place to be seen.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownI think it was very smart for LB to look at a successful model and then try to emulate it.
I also like how LB has talking points for the press: great school, great city. That's the kind of consistent messaging that will resonate in time. And for "older" folks like me, it's so cool to see some of the great basketball names of the last 10-20 years showing up at SMU bball games. Very cool. Way to get publicity and these greats to know about our school. Also shows how much LB means to these folks for them to visit. /No Hate. Just Facts. Occasional sarcasm.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownGreat point... Dallas is a Winner's Town! Well said. Fans will come out to watch a Winning Team. Another great point about Coach Brown having consistent talking points in press conferences. "Great School, Great City". Quotes like that will definitely will resonate over time. Associating Larry Brown's reputation, professionalism, his former players, his former coaches, and commitment to SMU has really helped provide direction for our program. People want to be associated with Larry Brown. Now SMU is associated with Larry Brown.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next GeorgetownI just don't understand the argument for moving to the Big East. The AAC is just as good if not better than the Big East. Going forward we have:
UCONN Memphis Cincinnati Temple Houston SMU That looks like a very good hoops conference to me and we do not have to sacrifice football to play in it.
Re: LB trying to make SMU the next Georgetown
Good point and the new Big East isn't going to invite any teams that have D1A football teams imo. They have who they want now imo. #HammerDown
