Defense & Rebounding

It's no secret that we are one of the best defensive teams in the country, and I believe we have out rebounded all of our opponents but one. What impresses me the most is that in conference play we have continued this trend:

Cincinnati shot 36% from the field and we were +2 in rebounding
#17 UConn shot 36% from the field and we were +8 in rebounding
#12 Louisville shot 37% from the field and we were +13 in rebounding
USF shot 32% from the field and we were +6 in rebounding
UCF shot 31% from the field and we were +2 in rebounding
Hofstra shot 33% from the field and we were +16 in rebounding
Rutgers shot 33% from the field and we were -1 in rebounding
Houston shot 48% from the field and we were +4 in rebounding
USF shot 53% from the field and we were -5 in rebounding
Memphis shot 40% from the field and we were +2 in rebounding
Temple shot 30% from the field and we were +6 in rebounding
Cincinnati shot 35% from the field and we were -6 in rebounding
Temple shot 40% from the field and we were -13 in rebounding
Houston shot 39% from the field and we were +12 in rebounding
UConn shot 30% from the field and we were -5 in rebounding
UCF shot 38% from the field and we were -1 in rebounding

We are doing this against big, athletic, physical teams....traditional Big East teams. In the past we've never had the size and athleticism to do this. It's so impressive and fun to watch.

also passing and shot selection. SMU is 14th in shooting percentage-that's top 4-5% in the Country

it helps whenever half your shots are either from 2 ft or are slams

Yes, I believe we are near the bottom of the country in 3s attempted per game.

Its a great foundation. So many teams now live and die by 3s

If we can limit out turnovers, especially against the better teams we can beat anyone

Just imagine if someone like Frazier starts heating up. Then this team gets scary good.

yeah it would open up the middle too if Frazier and Moore were both consistent from 3 point line

that what makes frazier so potentially dangerous - if he can hit a couple early they have to come out to him, and then the drive, then score/dish off would be routine. Cant wait to start seeing that.

Can't believe we are talking about a McDonald All-American still "finding his shot" beyond the 3-point line at this point in the season...but KF's upside is enormous.

Just watched the blurb on the Memphis MAA who was a washout last year and is tearing it up this year. Takes time to adjust sometimes.

Tonight was the first conference game we've been out rebounded, 34 to 33, but we continued our excellent FG defense - Rutgers shot 33%

Saw that - what a bummer. Wish we could of kept that streak going.
