Prime Prep/HCYA

I came to the game at PP tonight. PP leads 37-29 at the half. HCYA's Justin Jackson (#10 player in. 2014 UNC commit) is not playing. Eman has 13 in the 1st. LB and Ulric are here. LB creates a buzz when walks in a HS gym. As I'm typing this Eman throws down a hard dunk!

And Eman is not the only 5-star talent on PP. Ferguson is incredibly talented - can shoot with range and very athletic. Eman just threw him an oop and Ferguson finished strong. He's a stud in the making. Scottie Pippen type game.

PP won easily. HCYA was no match without Jackson. Eman only played about half the game as their coach gave the other guys some pt. Eman probably had 20 (several dunks and a couple of 3s). He got into the lane at will and created many layups/dunks for his teammates. As OBF said when he saw him, he can score whenever he wants. He's almost unguardable at this level.

Ferguson showed his 3-point range early but cooled off in the 2nd. It's not hard to see why he's ranked #10 in the 2016 class. He's as offensively skilled as anyone I've seen at that age. At 6'6" and rail thin he's going to continue to grow. From what I hear, we are in the lead for him and I have to believe he's our top target in the 2016 class.

PJ Washington is their freshman forward at 6'7" 200lbs. It's hard to believe he's only a freshman. He looks like a college TE now. Most of his points came on dunks and he is already very physical in the middle. He'll be on of the top players in the 2017 class.

I watched Plano West play at Plano SR on Friday. Went to see DJ Hogg.

Hogg had a solid game, I believe I had him at 3-7 from the field, 2 of his makes were on rebounds in traffic. They only got him 2 open catch and shoots which is what I think he is best suited for. He made one of those.
I had him 6-10 on free throws, although at one point he was 6 of 7.

Most often DJ would take an entry pass at the elbow, square up like Dirk, and drive to the basket. He got free throws almost every time he drove, very close to closing a bunch of and one's, but all rolled off.

Also, is very active on help side defense, had 5 blocks, 2 goal tends. The kid can definitely handle the ball for a tall skinny Junior, can get his shot whenever he wants.

Wish we could have seen a shooting show though, he made 70% of his long range shots in warmups, and they looked sweet!

Oh, also their tweener guard, Junior Sosa Jamabo, 6 ft 4, and muscular, very impressive. Can get his shots down low, and up top, makes good decisions, good passer.

Also, Plano Sr has a tall redhead, I would say 6'11", was pretty impressive with good moves down low, and beautiful free throws. i don't know if he is a top recruit, but I would think he has a big future in college.

2 Things:

Kris- Did Mickey Mitchell (Plano West I believe) play? How'd he do? He had a torn ACL but I'm pretty sure he is back playing. EDIT: he has been back this year but had back issues. Was averaging a triple-doub prior to the back-strain.

LA- I love Fergusson's game, was very impressive down here in Dayton. Still a really young and raw player but he's on pace with many other sophomores I've seen ranked in the top 10 early not only this year but in the past. Like his game a lot and his ability to go inside out. He gets to the rim but not enough imo, I think that will grow as he matures. Seemed to have a nice jumper in the small sample I've seen him on TV and in-person.

As for Mudiay, sounds like he had a monster night considering the short minutes. I'm glad he was able to get a couple 3's to fall, his jumper wasn't working last time I saw him.

And HCYA, they suck outside of Jackson. I shouldn't say suck, but nowhere near the talent top to bottom as PP, just not the same caliber. But Jackson is a special talent, wish you could've seen him if you haven't already. Actually check that, I think you said you have seen him and weren't impressed when you saw him.

I don't believe he played, or I think I would have remembered a 6'8" 240 pound freshman, # 00.

Plano West's chris Giles 6'2" Freshman guard also played well.

Avery Johnson Jr. had some good moments and erratic ones too. He closed out the first half hitting a short runner and then stealing the inbounds to score a 3 "and one" at the halftime buzzer. Very big play in the game. I booked out with 90 seconds left in game, Plano West was up 49-41 I think.

Oh, also Hogg made a couple of really nice full court passes, one off a rebound, one inbound. Neither were finished as they should have. He actually had a lot of nice passes that should have resulted in assists.

Ferguson has a beautiful jumper. He took it to the rim a couple of times, primarily because HCYA had no size with Jackson out. Eman threw him an alley oop from half court that he finished with a strong two handed dunk. That play got the biggest crowd reaction of the night. As I said earlier, Ferguson cooled off in the 2nd half. I may be wrong but he seemed to be pressing a lil after LB arrived. Their home gym is tiny. Even the players notice when someone walks in, especially someone like LB. He couldn't miss before LB got there, and couldn't hit a three afterwards. It may have just been a coincidence because he plays in front of big-name coaches all the time, but he supposedly is very high on LB and SMU. BTW, he was at the Memphis game Saturday night. He would be an unbelievably huge get.

Eman played well in limited minutes. He seemed to turn up the intensity when LB arrived. I watched him closely when he penetrates in the half court set, he was always looking to pass first, and usually did, even though he could've finished easily himself. Many times he found Washington in the paint for a dunk (still hard for me to believe that kid is a freshman, he's a force) or kicked it back outside for an open jumper. Off the top of my head, Eman was 3-of-7 on threes.

HCYA can shoot the ball but they had nothing inside. I was disappointed Jackson didn't play. I had seen them once on the TV and he didn't play that well but I've also seen clips where he looks amazing. He was wearing a boot and on crutches. Didn't look too serious though as he was walking on it during timeouts.

We really need to keep our fingers crossed that Prime Prep gets its sh$t together. There could be real issues getting these kids eligible if the state decides that Prime Prep is a farce............

The 7 footer from Plano is already committed to Texas State. We have our eye on larger talent than him though

Why would you leave with 90 seconds left? Game still in doubt. Lame

Lame is your comment. I had plans and was already late. Last think i needed was to sit in traffic, place was packed. I squeezed in a game at last minute on a busy schedule, the game was not in doubt, not that I even cared who won. I was there to scout recruits.
