Postby Sportswatchguru » Tue Feb 11, 2014 4:51 pm

There has been talk of “Moody Magic” for the Mustangs, a phrase alluding to the luck the team has had since the newly renovated building was completed and filled once again with SMU faithful. That’s one way to describe the team’s dominance at home since play resumed at the storied hoops venue. It started with the debut of the renovated stadium on national television against then-No.17 UConn, led on offense by Shabazz Napier. The Huskies and Napier fell 74-65 to a team led by Nic Moore with 20 points and six assists. The mindset of “Moody Magic” then took hold of SMU.

Since then, the Mustangs have gone on a tear throughout January and early February, winning 9 of 10. Out of those wins – five coming at home, including the win against UConn – Larry Brown’s squad has beaten three AP Top 25 teams at home, the other two being then-No. 22 Memphis and No. 7 Cincinnati. The SMU campus is in uncharted waters as of late, considering their last win against a Top 25 team was in December of 2003, students and fans alike are ecstatic about the recent success. Clearly, something electric is in the air at Moody Coliseum.
