good article and hard to deny what he is saying. But, every conference has awful teams. There is also no denying that the top half of our conference had good OOC wins to justify they are in fact good

Tulane, East Carolina and Tulsa will not help this argument

You could also make the argument that this hurts our SOS, which is the biggest thing holding us back right now

I was about to say the exact same thing. I hope Hart is working the phones to get us into a P5 all day every day.

The average record in conference play (assuming an even number of teams) will be .500. If there are "good" teams winning all their games, there will be "bad" teams losing those games.

I don't know that I'd say that Houston is terrible. Same with UCF.
Possibly Rutgers and definitely Temple/USF are terrible.
We're probably not as strong as the Big 12 - TCU is the only terrible team in there. But we're not too far behind.

I agree with that being the goal for SMU, but don't think it is appropriate for ADs to voice those desires publicly...doesn't help with the public perception of our current conference at all.

Every league is this way - has anyone looked at the bottom of the SEC or ACC? Boston College has lost TEN straight games in the ACC! South Carolina is winless on the road this year and is 2-9 in conference play in the SEC. Where are the stories about those conferences?
To have 5 out of ten teams in the conference ranked is not a matter of beating up on the bottom dwellers - it means the top half has also beaten each other and won our OOC games on top of that.
