Phone Call from the Deep South...

I just got off the phone with a stuck up SEC homer (fraternity brother) from Atlanta who wanted to know if there was any way I could score him two Louisville tickets. The entire call he lamented about the pathetic condition of the Alabama BB program (and SEC BB overall) and about how fun it is to watch SMU.

Think about where SMU was at this time two or three years ago, remember the CIT? Props to LB, Hart and the athletic department, they have rebranded SMU (#PonyUp, #PonyUp TV, created a family atmosphere, and created a winning community even with heaven forbid BEER!) and made SMU not only a city brand but also an emerging regional and hopefully a national brand.

Folks, SMU is hot. Let's celebrate, remain thankful, and go deep into the 64!

I saw an ole miss fan on twitter asking why all the smu love. He claimed ole miss has essentially the same resume. First thing that popped in my head: ad of the last ap poll at least, smu has a stronger league

Old P*ss is crap. They would lose to the Big 5 in the AAC and likely Houston, too. Outside of Kensucky and Florida, the SEC does not have a team that can hoop day end and day out. Attendance is horrific!

And sorry to Rebstang for being [deleted] Ole Miss, remember I'm half Bamer!

Yes, Louisville is one of our 3 worst losses (by RPI).

You can respond to that Ole Miss fan with a link to this post if you want.

I've been an Ole Miss fan my whole life... SMU would beat Ole Miss by 30 in Moody and by 10+ at Tad Smith Coliseum (that's assuming that the game doesn't get rained out).

No worries... SEC basketball sucks. Florida would finish no worse than 3rd in the American, in my opinion, but Kentucky probably wouldn't finish any better than 3rd or 4th. Ole Miss would be a middle of the pack American team that could give the better teams a tough game on a good night but would also be capable of losing to the really bad teams on any night (kind of like losing to a terrible Alabama team last Tuesday).

A perfect illustration of just how bad the SEC is is the fact that it would be hard to argue against a statement that Andy Kennedy is the 4th best coach in the league based on actual results on the court... and Andy Kennedy is a terrible basketball coach compared to what we see in the AAC night in and night out.

The only question is how many 3's Marshall Henderson would hit before he'd get T'd up and ejected.

Ole Miss is a very inconsistent team. Unless they bring their A game, I think SMU would wipe the floor with them (even at the Tad Pad).

Considering how many SEC fans I knew when I was going to SMU (and still do, especially come football season) this is just them returning the favor.
