Check out NCAA Bylaw 13.10.5. Some schools self-report student chants as a violation (Purdue does, for example), but I don't know of any examples where schools were punished if the chant/sign/etc. wasn't school supported. There's definitely room for interpretation.
Not saying "yay" or "nay". Just for discussion's sake.
13.10.5 Prospective student-Athlete’s visit. A member institution shall not publicize (or arrange for publicity of) a prospective student-athlete’s visit to the institution’s campus. Further, a prospective student-athlete may not participate in team activities that would make the public or media aware of the prospective student-athlete’s visit to the institution (e.g., running out of the tunnel with team, celebratory walks to or around the stadium/arena, on-field pregame celebrations). Violations of this bylaw do not affect a prospective student-athlete’s eligibility and are considered institutional violations per Constitution 2.8.1. (Revised: 1/14/97, 9/12/03)

Turner will probably be the only 2014 recruit in the building. We have chanted Thomas' name before. This night needs to be all about Myles Turner period imo.

No time to be a rules pansy. If they say stop then worry about it

I agree. Many big-time basketball schools have requested that students abstain. (Just search for the bylaw on Google for a ton of examples.) Wouldn't be surprised if we eventually saw SMU do this as well, but I think it has more to do with "plausible deniability" for the school than actually caring what the students chant. (Kind of like when coaches request students remain positive when cheering...)

The rule says nothing about chanting a name. Since tweeter and media outlets have made known his visit to SMU it is public knowledge. Running out of the tunnel with team, celebratory walks to or around the stadium/arena, on-field pregame celebrations is not chanting.

As I pointed out originally, many schools do interpret this rule to include student chants. (It certainly would if they were endorsed/started by the school.) Some schools don't acknowledge it either way.
If you Google the rule, about 80% of the results are other school's fan boards discussing an e-mail sent by the school about chanting prospective student-athletes' names.
Regardless, it is not really an issue, just a little point of interest. I think it's fine to chant whatever the hell our students want to chant, I just thought it was a gray area and did some reading. Thought I'd share.

So Elijah Thomas and Myles Turner will be there?
