United Center National AnthemA lot of fans have clamored about starting cheering traditions at Moody. At the United Center (Chicago Blackhawks), they start cheering at the beginning of the National Anthem and get progressively louder until they are bringing down the house by the end. Not that we necessarily need to do it during the National Anthem (or at all), but I thought it would be pretty cool to make Moody rumble at the same uncommon pre-game or halftime point every game to really fire our guys up and intimidate the other team. In interviews, Blackhawks players said it always got them ready to play and opposing teams said it took the wind out of their sails the first times they played at the United Center.
Here's a video of the United Center. The video ends with the singing of Oh Canada, and then you'll hear the place erupt when the National Anthem begins (though you can barely hear the Anthem): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e-KsPhvnvc It would take some tact to start the tradition, but you can't fault me for having a constructive idea to help Moody continue its climb to being a home court haven
Re: United Center National AnthemI hate when Chicago fans do that during the National Anthem. I've always felt that they are simply trying to drown out the national anthem.
Here's a better way to respect the national anthem and show American pride: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbHMRpdk3_4
Re: United Center National AnthemIf you cheer during the National Anthem you ought to have your [deleted] beat.
Re: United Center National AnthemGo Hawks. I can't wait to cheer March 23.

Re: United Center National Anthem
You better be from Chicago. ![]() ![]() It really is something to behold to be at the United Center when Hawk fans cheer the National Anthem (granted I was there in 2008 when the Hawks were awful...the arena was maybe a 3rd full...and I was being thanked for coming to the game as an away fan, but it was still unbelievably loud during it). I can't imagine how loud Moody would be if this happened. ![]()
Re: United Center National AnthemI hope we don't do that as I think it's disrespectful. There is plenty of time during the game to get loud.
Re: United Center National AnthemSeriously, start cheering after the anthem if you want but please don't disrespect the anthem. Disgusting fan behavior in my opinion.
Shake It Off Moody
Re: United Center National AnthemYeah, to clarify: when I said "not necessarily during the National Anthem" I meant 'not during the National Anthem,' but at some other unsuspecting point. Right after the Anthem..? When they line up for tip-off..? Something like that where the whole crowd cheers it's loudest
Re: United Center National AnthemI like when they line up for tip-off
Re: United Center National AnthemThey're embracing the anthem and cheering for it. So typical to bash what you don't understand.

Re: United Center National Anthem1. We would blatantly be stealing someone else's bit
2. I'm not that big a fan of it to begin with ![]()
Re: United Center National AnthemCheering extremely loudly when gameplay is not in progress isn't anyone's "bit." But the idea isn't anything I'm going to fight someone for. I just thought it would be cool to fire our players up and freak the other team the [deleted] out. On to the next idea I suppose
But for the record, you'd have to erase a lot of SMU traditions if you weren't going to emulate others... ![]() See, Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue, for starters.
Re: United Center National Anthem
If you want to see embracing the anthem, see the video I posted above. I'm not accusing Chicago of being unpatriotic, I'm just saying that they've got it wrong.
