Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUThat first point of Cuban's is spot-on in regard to a lot of posters on this board I've noticed. Hardly realize it's a good team or rather don't trust them like today.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUsaw that, huge to get Pub like that. Lots of followers on his blog
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUYeah - saw that this morning. It's a really good read.
And, as GiddyUp said, it is fantastic for SMU to get some really nice and positive words in a very visible forum. Shake It Off Moody
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUGood points. We didn't do this in football when we upset TCU and came home to beat UCF. Not much buzz it seemed. All about coach at the college level IMHO.
Imagine where this team would be had we beat USF and Temple. I wonder what our ranking would be. 17? 18? Wouldn't make much difference in conference standings and may still not come conference tourney seeding time. And to the OBFs of the world, you haven't watched/rooted/cried/cheered for SMU for 30 years. Please hold your judgment. I am from a generation whose direct experience with SMU has all been from post-DP (originally learned about SMU as a kid during the pony express days). The second something wonderful happens, you wait for the next shoe to drop. Right now, I'm just enjoying the ride as best I can.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUCuban is a person who truly believes in his product and how to sell it to the public and does so with a passion. I'm a great fan of his.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMU
I understand. I do, but ya'll got a good team down in Dallas. Team has talent, if they lose it's because the team played poorly, not because they were out-manned anymore. Great thing to see. Cuban made so many good points in that blog, everything from his first down to his posts on fan experience and tickets. As someone that deals in tickets, so true. Gotta value the season ticket holders and find that price point, let the brokers gamble on teams. Their job is to fill the stadium. Part of the reason I doubt there will be much more than a modest raise in ticket prices next year, other than the "premium seating areas" that I've been told will see a decent hike.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUCuban has a damn good eye about these things. Watched a documentary on the guy and he has a way of analyzing things really well so long as his ego doesn't get in the way.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUCuban gets what Jerry Jones doesn't. The goal shouldn't be too replicate what you have at your house like the giant tv - it is to provide what can't be head at home

Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUIn a way, I think that the fact that Mark Cuban is, first and foremost, a big basketball fan really influences how he approaches marketing.
As someone who just enjoys being present for a good basketball game, he sees things differently than the typical "corporate" owner that gets more excited about greenbar printouts than an alley-oop dunk. The Jerry Jones and Mark Cuban comparison couldn't be more different. When was the last time Jerry Jones watched any sporting event that he didn't sit in a private suite? 25, 30 years ago? Cuban, on the other hand, sits in the stands because he's a sports fan and wants to be closer to the action. Which billionaire is more likely to really get what will bring fans to games? The one that never leaves his private suite or the one that sits in the stands (ok, Cuban doesn't sit in the stands... he sits in the ultra-premium seats... but not the suites from what I've seen).
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUCuban sat next to me in the top row of Reunion for a quarter in his first year as owner. He used to just wander around the stands and introduce himself during the games for a couple years. He is a fan first, owner second. And salesman before those.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMU
Talking about the salesman thing, what do you guys think about his argument about colleges teaching "sales" degrees?
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUI agree with him 100%. Really sales training should be a big part of most degree paths. Certainly could have used that in the engineering school

Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMULONG PAST DUE!!!!
There are probably more failures in that field than any other. BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
Re: Mark Cuban blog on marketing and SMUCuban's response to my email thanking him:
