STORRS, Conn. -- SMU added a quality road win to its already solid NCAA tournament resume.

Nick Russell and Nic Moore each scored 15 points to lead the Mustangs (22-6, 11-4 American Athletic Conference) to a 64-55 win Sunday over No. 21 UConn and a sweep of their season series with the Huskies.

Markus Kennedy had 13 points and seven rebounds for SMU, which has won 11 of its past 13 games.

"It's not about getting to the tournament," Kennedy said. "It's about getting a good seed and making a run for it. We've got the Final Four in our city and it should be a home game for us."

The Mustangs likely will go as far as their defense will carry them. They held UConn (21-6, 9-5) to 16 baskets and just under 30 percent shooting from the floor.

The Huskies' guard tandem of Ryan Boatright and Shabazz Napier combined to shoot 8-for-28.

Xactly. Much worse teams have made it. Few upsets, little luck, and 4 wins, you're there. Wouldn't be overly surprised, they're a tough match-up for teams with the interior presence. That's not common in the college game.

Agreed, basketball does not belong in a dome. Awful. Last year sucked.

It would suck way less if the Mustangs are in it. Yeah, it's a total longshot but it's also a four game win streak. Perhaps one major upset along the way but we have the depth and defense to go a few. Keep Nic from making stupid fouls and hit our foul shots....you never know.

He was saying that we have a chance as long as Nic Moore does not get in foul trouble. It is the opposite of criticizing him, he is saying we need him on the floor.

The way we are playing right now, I don't know that you can expect much better results next season other than eliminating the two bad losses to Temple and USF. Maybe we can start the season stronger by beating Arkansas and UVA?
