Temple almost beat Texas at Texas.

Eyeball test? No. Iowa State is definitely underrated and I think Kansas may be the best team in the nation. TCU is the only clear "bottom dweller". There's obviously room for argument with any question like this though.

it seems as though "almost" in CBB doesn't really have as much meaning as let's say college football. The better teams mostly always find a way to pull out a victory in the close games against lesser opponents.

And it's not like Temple hasn't played a number of AAC teams close as well. I think they beat a ranked team just last week...

Temple is getting better as the season progresses. The Big XII has KU, OU, and UT. Baylor, OSU, ISU, WVU, KSU second tier. TT AND TCU = RPI helpers. I'd love to play UT at the dance.

1) ISU is not second tier

2) TCU and Tech have negative impacts on the RPI of their conference mates. They aren't helping anyone.

Temple was not playing very well at the time. And it was not a home game for Temple.

Good teams have bad games; it does not make them bad teams, especially if they can still find a way to win. And SMU isn't the only good AAC team that Temple has played close.

And it's not at all fair to judge an entire conference on one bad game from one team anyway, especially when that team wins the game.
