That is interesting but they have Mercer (?) 7 spots higher than Duke. I really have a hard time believing that kind of methodology.

After reviewing the description of the methodology, it appears the data shows that:

SMU is the #1 team in the nation when playing at home.

Duke is the #2 team in the national when playing at home.

Since SMU is only the #27 team overall and Duke is the #9 team overall, it is far to say that, according to this analysis, the SMU homecourt advantage is greater than the Duke homecourt advantage.

I don't know now Mercer entered this conversation. They are rated #103 overall and #45 when playing at home. The overall Power Ratings track pretty close to the writers' and coaches' polls, at least for the top teams.

I'm not familiar with the background, but can you tell me why it matters if someone refers to SMU as Southern Methodist? I mean, isn't that the official name of the university or am I missing something? What's weirder, I can't think of another school that goes exclusively by their initials. Pretty cool though.

Same as if they started talking about Pennsylvania State or Louisiana State. Just stick with the shortened name, SMU and be consistent.
