I know Memphis came in as #1 while I was in school. I think it was the year before their run to the national championship game. We almost beat them, too.

Was Memphis ever #1 when they played at Moody? I remember one year they were undefeated but then lost to Tennessee before playing us- perhaps they were still technically #1 though and the new rankings hadnt been released yet

Last game of the regular season in 2006-2007 season. They did lose to Tennessee early in the season, but it was not recent at that time. Beat SMU by 3; Jon Killen shooting to tie at the buzzer.
EDIT: I looked around and they may have actually just been #6. The next year we barely missed them being #1 due to the loss you mentioned to Tennessee. We did play them @Memphis in 2007-2008 while they were ranked #1.

I remember going to a game at Moody in 75 or 76 against Arkansas when I believe they were ranked #1 during the Sydney Moncrief and Ron brewer days, I was just a kid and I may be wrong, but they had to be close to number 1.
I remember we had standing room only tickets and we ended up buying tickets from a scalper outside Moody so we could sit. My dad really bitched about the price, I think we had to pay 10 bucks a piece, my how times have changed.
And as a cool side note, me and my Dad were also at the Memphis game referenced above. No bandwagoners here!

Not sure if the Arkansas Razorbacks that visited Moody with Corliss Williamson, Scottie Thurman, Alex Dillard, Oliver Miller and company was #1, but would be interesting to know. Before the game, in warm-ups, Alex Dillard at 6' 0" was throwing the ball off the floor, off the backboard, and completing a 360 dunk two handed dunk. Pretty impressive.

The highest ranked team we played when I was in school was Keith Van Horn's Utah squad. I can't remember what they were ranked but I believe they were top 10. Moody was pretty full that night.

Oliver Miller definitely played in Moody when I was a student. Not sure if they were number 1.
Weren't some of the Phi Slamma Jamma teams #1 during the sWc?

Pretty sure Arkansas was #1 in 1978 when we played them at Moody. It was my first date with the eventual Mrs. Crampus. I was quite the romantic (but at least she knew what she was getting into).

I was at that game. Rowdiest I've ever seen it except perhaps against Fresno St with Tark at the helm (was at that one also). Damn, I need to get to the new Moody! Miss it big time. (and, for the record, I think Arky was #3 at the time - year after they won the national championship with same team favored to do it again).
