Holy Crap. Jon Rothstein quote

Ever had a root canal? That's what it's like playing the Mustangs. Larry Brown managed SMU's win at UConn on Sunday similar to how Bobby Fischer used to manage big chess matches. If you have a strength offensively, Brown takes it away. If you like to accelerate the pace, Brown uses 32-34 seconds each time his team has the ball on offense. SMU is well coached, disciplined, and unbelievably long on defense. The Mustangs aren't just good enough to make the NCAA Tournament. They're good enough to win in the NCAA Tournament.

Yeah, that's all true. Good enough to win IN the tournament. I'll be pretty shocked if anyone says WIN the tournament.

Can't believe some people wanted North Texas State's, Tony Benford, over Larry Brown.

I'm not judging anyone by them not wanting Brown or thinking Brown was a mistake, gimmick, whatever. Hindsight is 20/20, and sooo many people, especially analysts and I'm sure coaches, thought it was a joke we hired LB. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised to see one or two of the coaches who went to bat for him in the job in the first place might have done it out of loyalty more than anything, thinking "Why not? It's SMU? It'll take him four years to turn it around if he can, and by then he'll be gone."

With the way we play defense we will not be blown out by anyone. If we can get a good draw and some favorable matchups I could see us making a deep run.

In the HBO interview Larry Brown says that he won't tell the players they don't have a chance to win the tournament this season.

Totally agree with this. i was just looking at the USA Today bracket they posted and thought it would be one I would love to have. An 8 seed playing 9 seed Colorado and the winner would most likely play Wichita St. Whether we beat Wichita or not ( I think we have a shot ), the publicity would be amazing.

of course he won't. This is new territory for us but any top 25 team has a legitimate chance. And we ARE top 25 team who is clicking at the right time. Man I am loving this season. Have been waiting for too long for excitement. Far too many attempts to defend SMU athletics at the water cooler.
