Which is it, Madness or Magic?

Postby ponyboy » Fri Feb 28, 2014 8:45 am

I hear both being thrown around all the time. Seems to me we need to stick with one.

Per history, it's madness.

Moody Madness is a specific event in history. Moody Magic is Corpus Christi Moody High School baseball.

Unless I'm totally misremembering, "moody madness", while a specific event, has also been used for a long time to designate important or particularly electric games. In other words, it's got a lot of history behind it. As far as I can tell, "moody magic" was just invented and rolled out as the theme for this year. I think it's a bit unfortunate and confusing seeing how close the two terms are.

The phrase "moody madness" dates back to 1984 when the mavs played a playoff game in moody coliseum. The mavs won in OT and the impact of the crowd was really felt.

Moody magic is merely a misinterpretation of crowd chants that reporters have put out there this year.

Moody Magic was marketed as the opening of the new Moody.

I like Moody Madness as a brand. Moody Magic/Madness on a shirt. And Moody Magic as the chant near the end of a game

Moody Madness is Dallas mavericks not mustangs. Moody Magic was SMU marketing for THiS SEASON. If you're asking for correct, magic is the only relevant term, but who gives a flying fat rats backside.

This is Marketing 101. "Moody Madness" is a known commodity. Bringing "Moody Magic" into the mix only confuses people.

So see the Star Telegram article on the Cincinnati win: http://www.star-telegram.com/2014/02/08 ... -with.html

Yes, it references the 1984 Mavs playoff game. But it's been extended to include all the great stuff going on at Moody this year. The average, non SMU fan identifies with the phrase Moody Madness.

It may be too late, but I think the Magic thing is unfortunate.

I understand that Madness is associated with the Mavs game, but I prefer it over Magic.

To me Magic sounds like last second miracle shots, improbable wins and maybe some pixie dust.

Madness has a bit more of an edge to it. We have not been pulling out miraculous wins, we have been running them out of the gym with a combination of great play and fan intensity. Madness.
