Cheer/Chant idea...

We do this at Bama and it might work for SMU:

Why not have the cheerleaders divide Moody in half:
The home side chants: Pony!
The other side chants: Up!
Repeat Twice
The home side chants: Red!
The other side chants: Blue!
Repeat Twice
Then everyone chants: SMU!

It would have to be taught, but could be cool during tight games. Maybe too late for this year because the cheerleaders would need signs.

Seems pretty darn easy - I don't get it either.

Start with the basics...cheerleaders should chant the same thing as everyone else first.

Do we have any cheer leaders participate in this forum? If so, it would be great if you helped implement these ideas. Also it would be great to have you up in the crowd leading some cheers.

One side say DE and the other side answers back saying FENSE.

We tried to do this during some football games with SMUER. Worked for like one or two games and it was awesome. I totally agree and love this chant. My family is okie state people and they all do "ORANGE....POWER" across the gym literally all the time. It sounds very cool

The way it's done at Bama is one of the male cheerleaders is center court or field with a microphone and the rest of the cheerleaders are lined up on either side. They do it to get the fans warmed up - very simple but effective.

I've heard "Red-->Blue-->Red-->Blue" work before as well, that would be a fairly easy way to kind of energize the fans during a break in the action.

Our cheerleaders are no more experienced at cheers than anyone on this board. I have suggested this to our band director and was told that our cheerleaders were restricted in where they could be while the game was in progress. Same for Pom Pom girls, except before the game when they are in the aisles during intros. We may be the only place in America where 4 different chants of dee - fense are going on simultaneously. To my way of thinking you have different faces or sides to the crowd. Why you couldn't have 2 cheerleaders facing each of the 4 sides leading an in cadence yell is beyond me. Maybe that's advanced cheerleading 430. Or graduate level.

Sorry to say but my daughter's 7th grade cheer team has more control over the middle school crowd than SMU cheer leaders do over either the basketball or football crowds.

Also, where do these rules come from? Seems like a lot of BS. I see cheer leaders up in the stands at many other college games. Perhaps we need to hire a Crazy George type person to lead these efforts. Lobster-man seems to be our main cheer leader!

Good luck with that. The bowheads are not really in to leading cheers.

Haha, yes. They are just sort of "there" and dont add much at all. Its very strange - no leading cheers and pretty zombieish in general
