Any Transfers Being Targeted for 2014 Class?

With so many transfers joining our program over the past couple of seasons, I was wondering if we were planning on adding any transfers for our 2014 Class? If a transfer does decide to come to SMU, is there a deadline, when would this info become public knowledge?

I doubt it unless talking juco transfers. No reason now for smu to lose the year of eligibility

I bet SMU will get some transfers. We do have two scholarships left to give even if no one unexpected leaves and the one recruit we have signed for this class is likely to be here just one year. Would not hurt to get someone transferring after their freshman or sophomore year who could sit out a year and play 2 or 3 years.

Can anyone who knows more than me about all this give us some predictions. The only other one I see us offering who we could get is the JUCO baseball guy. Any others? I think we need a shooter/perimeter D specialist type but I don't see one of those on an offer list . . . maybe we'll pick up 2 jucos . . (since we have 3 to fill unless Wilfong transfers out which would bring it to 4).

In most cases you will not hear about transfers until their season is over.

Ah, ok. Then we have 3 to fill (Mudiay's brother isn't going anywhere and I don't see Dunleavy going anywhere either). So we need to fill JJ and Williams and Russell. So that's 2 more: I'll take a rebounding/shot blocking machine (JUCO baseball guy?) and a shooter/perimeter defender please (no idea who that would be - I thought maybe Matthews but brother committed to Kentucky already).

If he comes to SMU wouldn't Mickey Mitchell fulfill the shooter/perimeter defender spot?

Dunleavy is a walk on too.

There will be at least one player transfer off the teams after the season.

Any transfer would have to be reeeeaaaallly good assuming he would only be eligible for the 2015/16 season when this staff should have a monster recruiting class. An immediately eligible graduate student would make sense for next year, but anything beyond next year would be a huge risk for any kid transferring. Only other consideration would be that the staff would take a transfer with the idea that it would later break up/balance out the scholarship distributions as the 2015/16 class could possibly have 7 open scholarships with the current team and any one and done kids from 2014/15.

After the season, there will be graduating seniors with a year of eligibility left. Rounding out the roster with these "one and dones" is an obvious solution for having a full squad next year, while not bringing in players who will be almost certain to be recruited over.

The problem with bringing in guys who have one year left is that it does nothing to help with the fact that we have a ridiculous number of scholarships for 2015. I think we will end up with a freshman or sophomore transfer who sits out a year and plays 3 or 2 for us. You can get some pretty good players that way, we have a few on our team and a couple are our best players.

I would agree with this and we really won't know until after the season. Look at JJ.....last minute departure. How many talented freshmen are there who have discovered they made a bad choice out of high school and would love the opportunity this program presents? My guess..more than a dozen. We just don't know who they are. Hopefully our recruiters do.
