Norm just went off on the Selection Com

FWIW
Basically said AAC got hosed. The committee had a bias for the ACC. Virginia should not be a 1 and Louisville a 4 and if the played Vegas would have UVA as huge underdogs.
Then he went through our schedule losses ect as saying we put ourselves on the bubble. Then thru NC State credentials - no better. Said if you through all the other teams out and just looked at SMU and NC State there was no doubt who should be in and who should be out and it wasn't SMU.
He was very adamant and POed that we got left out.
I know he didn't say anything others here haven't said, but Norm is not an SMU apologist and would have just as easily called us out if we deserved it. He said every year a team gets screwed but it should not have galled to SMU this year.
Said it is obvious the new conference got the shaft to the ACCs benefit. Lastly just cause it is a new conference doesn't mean it's team aren't worthy and that everybody was in love with these exact same teams (Louisville, Cinci, UConn) last year.
I post for all who say we deserved to be bumped. It shows just another of many examples of non-biased sports commentators who think we got screwed.

Yes, no SMU fan out there should be justifying the rape that occurred last night. We deserved to get a ticket to the Dance, no doubt about it. Not our fault.

Agreed.

Disagree. We've been consistently kicked in the crotch by the NCAA for 30 years. We should not expect any different. Ever. By losing to S. Florida, Temple, and Houston we opened the door for them to do it again. Without even one of those losses, they would have had no choice, and we be complaining this morning about a lower seed than we thought we deserved.

Stephen A Smith spoke up for us, too.

From what Wellman was saying it sounded like SMU wouldn't have forgotten in even if they had beaten USF, Temple, and Houston due to having a 303rd ranked OOC SOS.

I interpreted that to mean that, given our record, our OOC SOS hurt us relative to other teams on the bubble. If we had 3 more wins our RPI would have been better than NC State and probably some of the other bubble teams so I think we would have been fine.

Winning those games would have made it such that there was no way they could exclude us, it is true. But we were still raped.

The SOS argument is [deleted]. You have to look at the face to face matchups. Lose by 3 to UVA on neutral floor. SWEEP a 7 seed, split with a 5 and 8 seed. Ranked #18. We've had TWO bad losses all year (Houston was NOT a bad loss) . . . and everyone has bad losses. That's it. It's a BS argument plan and simple. Wellman and his ilk just have flawed thinking. No AAC political representation guarding our flank is the bottom line and the REAL reason we didn't get in. I hope all AAC teams make a very deep run (going to be hard since they put most in the same damn bracket) but I hope Cincy and UConn especially have very deep runs. And, of course, I hope SMU wins the NIT although no one will care but just out of spite to these a-holes.
After giving this much thought and then driving into work this morning, the thing that bothers me the MOST is that Okie St, Baylor, and Texas got in (and got some pretty good seeds in fact) and we were left out - just another justification to show that regionally SMU is still a 2nd class citizen (hurts with recruits, although the ones that have really been following SMU this year know the real deal). Of course, DMN had us #1 in Texas for several weeks and we were getting some local Dallas media love finally. I just hope Texas and Baylor SUCK next year and beyond we have a nice sustained run here for a while (several years).

I hope that Texas and Baylor are fantastic next year. And we are better.

Ojai nailed it. Also, does it really matter if you beat a few RPI schools in the 200 range as opposed to a few more in the 150 range? Either way, you are going to win those games. Scheduling is about who is available, and the region you are in, and the RPI is HINDSIGHT. It cannot be that big of a factor. Also top 100 wins is like saying its the same to beat a #15 team on the road as it is to beat #99 at home. Finally, winning at UIC may not have been something to brag about, but we went 1,000 miles to their place and played and won. They beat Illinois last year i think, so that was a respectable thing to do. We just got hosed so bad in the committee room.

We had an ACC clown sit in front of a camera and throw an AAC team to the curb to get in an undeserving mediocre ACC team that we'd slaughter on a neutral court. That simple. Our SOS my [deleted]. We played half the season in a high school gym.

I would be so much less pissed if, say, Green Bay got that last at large bid. But, come on- NCSU, Tennessee, Nebraska, BYU? Go f*ck yourself Wellman.
