Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling"We'll play anybody, anyplace, anytime. It doesn't matter, morning, noon or night, and it doesn't matter who it is."
I would love to see us get Michigan State on the schedule for a home-and-home. Izzo, in my opinion, is the best coach in the country. I'd love to see us get two shots at his squad 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingYep. Great quote, lets take him up on it!
Beat the hell out of anybody!
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingHe is a really good coach. I love that guy, great guy to have a conversation with if you get a chance. And yeah, not to be a B10 homer or anything like that, but MSU plays the toughest teams in the country every freaking year in the OOC. It's unreal. If Ohio State played their schedules, we'd go into conference play with 5 losses. They got the Champions Classic, Carrier Classic some years, then the invite tourneys. Got a lot of respect for him and his scheduling approach.
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
you think he'd be interested in a home and home with SMU? 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
Probably at the AAC! How bout a neutral/neutral site? Dallas (AAC), and Auburn Hills, Mi (Palace)! 2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingschedule harder but never give up Moody advantage.
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
He said "anyplace!" Let's do Moody and their place. Can you imagine Moody on a Saturday night with Tom Izzo and the Spartans in town? 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingYou guys had better start getting used to the idea of SMU playing 1 game a year at the AAC. More than likely going to happen.

Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
I don't know man, it's hard to get home and homes scheduled in basketball. People think it's easy to do or something but it's really not. It's one less game at The Breslin that MSU doesn't collect money on. That's the big thing, big schools don't want to lose that revenue and on top of that, what does MSU gain by coming to Dallas other than maybe a bit of exposure? The big boys don't want to play teams they can get beat by in the OOC cause they know they're gonna lose quite a few in conference play. Gonzaga has had this problem, getting teams up to Spokane or even to get them on the schedule period, Illinois made a trip this year I believe but it's rare to have a big bball school go play a good team "mid-major" or whatever you want to call them on the road (Yes, I realize SMU isn't a mid-major anymore but it will take a few years to change the rest of the country's perception). I know I just typed way more than what you were asking, I don't think it would happen personally. I don't see the incentive for MSU. On a neutral court, that may be more realistic but MSU already plays a lot away from home as I noted in my first post with early season tourneys and classics. I think as the SMU profile grows, it is more realistic to expect home and homes with solid teams. I know Ohio State and Kansas had home and home, the year before OSU had a home and home with Florida. I think it comes down to raising the SMU profile as they're doing very rapidly. In the next two years, I would not expect a school like MSU to agree to losing revenue with SMU though fwiw. I could be wrong, see "Don't Worry" thread. Still fvcking ticked about that.
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingYeah, I get all of that. I'm hoping some big programs will want to schedule us at Moody in the future since it will be a big road win to boost their RPI- see Pitino's comments

Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
I think it will happen but it will take time. The other thing to understand is that it's unreal for even big teams to expect other big teams to do home and homes. They (big bball schools) HATE losing out on revenue from home games in basketball. That's why teams like UCLA, Kansas, Duke, ect all have like 19 home games a year. Neutral court tourneys, they still profit from.
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC schedulingSparty, Michigan, or Ohio St at the AAC would be pretty fun
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
Makes sense. WAs just looking at some schedules- don't think Duke played one true away OOC game- all neutral or at home. Arizona went to SDSU and Michigan- that's impressive 2005 PonyFans.com Rookie of the Year Award Recipient
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
This, we're willing to go into their houses, they need to come to us.
Re: Tom Izzo on OOC scheduling
Yeah, Arizona traveling to SDSU was a shock. I think it was a favor to Fisher more than anything. Michigan-they have a home and home with. I went to that game this year, awesome atmosphere, really had a good time. Duke does the B10/ACC challenge, so they play away every other year for that game. But you're right, most of Duke is neutral. It's all $$$$$. And the real issue with SMU even getting good teams scheduled even when SMU agrees to go play them at their place is that they're good. It's a compliment, would be stupid for Ohio State to schedule a team like SMU at the Schott in the OOC. Could easily be a loss. I think people are over-thinking the scheduling thing though in all honesty. Fact of the matter is that Hart didn't even realize how good the team was going to be and I doubt they expected 4 wins against the top 4 in the AAC. So consequently, they scheduled winnable games and what not. If they beat Virginia though, nobody is worried about the OOC schedule. I think the real focus needs to be on the Gonzagas of the world that need quality OOC games to help compliment the less than ideal conference schedule. SDSU, UNLV, Indiana State, Dayton, ect. Teams that make the tourney and need to boost their resume.
