Bzdelick was a terrible hire. Gaudio was doing great things at Wake and turned them into a national power, then got fired after one (relatively) down year. Bzdelick had a long relationship with the AD, the whole fan base never got over it, felt like Gaudio got fired to make way for Wellman's buddy. This decision might have been over Wellman's head

Not even fired after a down year, really. Gaudio won 20 games and went to the tournament, and got ousted for Bzedlik who never made a postseason tournament in four seasons at Wake and had just one winning season (this year), going 17-16.
