Ridiculous NCAA RuleA sophomore walk-on for K-State dunked a ball in practice and a technical foul was called against him. The Kentucky player got two free throws before the initial tip to start the game. He made one of them. Just a STUPID rule!
Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleAre you surprised. Such stupidity. Is that a tournament rule? I swear I have seen guys dunk in reg season, but can't say for sure.

Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rule
Are you sure you weren't watching a replay of the NCAA's in circa. 1966?
Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rule
Pony mom, I think the rule is a player can not dunk during pre game warm ups once the referees are on the court. It is a rule that has been around for awhile I am not 100% sure but I think that is the reason. GO MUSTANGS!
Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rule
^^This^^ You can dunk all you want in warmups. . . That is until the officials come out to warm up. 2015 INDIANAPOLIS OR BUST
Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleEven the announcers said it was a ridiculous rule and should be dumped.
Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rulesince the walk-on got a foul he can tell his grandkids about the nite he made an appearance in NCAA Tournament

Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleThat same rule exist for HS players. Once the refs come on the court ... and they will usually blow their whistles to let the players know fun time is over ... at least they do in HS. They feel it's a means to control crowd and player emotions leading up tip-off esp in a big game, by not letting pre-game to turn into dunk a-thon highlight show ... but no coach would let that happen. Dumb rule IMO also.
Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rule
The announcers said he wouldn't be charged a foul. If you get a tech do get into the books or was it a bench tech. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk An atheist is a guy who watches a Notre Dame-SMU football game and

Re: Ridiculous NCAA Rulea technical usually is a foul counted against a players 5 allowed. I've seen that at least twice in recent weeks. Hell it happened to Nic Moore too

Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleThe sideline reporter said specifically he didn't get a foul. But she could have been wrong. I knew it had happened to Moore. I hope he did - he will definitely have a story for his grand kids. u

Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleThis has been a rule since at least the 70s. Ok, It's stupid but it has been on the books at the college and HS level for over a generation. The kid screwed up and he should have known better. Stupid rule that is out of date...yes. Stupid rule that even a DA walk on kid should have known since it was in place before he was born...yes!
Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleI always thought it was because they were worried that if the teams dunked violently over and over they might screw up the rim.
Re: Ridiculous NCAA RuleIts a silly rule, but its basis was player and equipment safety. Dunking was illegal in college and HS from the late 60's into the early 70's known as the Lew Alcinder (Kareem Abdul Jabbar) rule. Once it was brought back players were turning warm-ups into "can you top this" dunks. A few teams had players were getting hurt in warm-ups, backboards were shattering (which for school districts and small colleges can get expensive) and it was decided that these exhibitions should not be permitted in pregame warm-ups. Again, a silly rule, but that was the basis for it. They can dunk at practices all they want and I remember we used to try to do that in HS. Being only 5'10" with little hands I could only clank the rim which usually got a laugh from everyone.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
