I still think there has got to be a better way to utilize the bird seat on the Eastside of Moody. Surely there is a modification to make that box seating or something in future. Raise the level of the seats and fill it up. I think it would make a great rental space for about 30 of your closest friends. Right now that is the (only) architectural fail for Moody. Why did they sacrifice additional seating for no value? Looks like about 160 seats

Agreed. They could make it a "Super Box" or something.

To that end- they could and should do a promo where the student group (frat/sorority/RUF/whatever) with the best student attendance at football games gets to use the "Super Box" for a few home basketball games.

Original plans for moody had this as a private club (with beer/wine sales) that would overlook The court in a private seating setting somewhat similar to club for football. Discussions with tabc raised concerns for ability to pass alcohol out of club into stands. This decision was made prior to stadium wide beer sales. At that point, open seating club was scrapped altogether and SMU decided to open club to overlook interior corridor instead of game seating.

I expect that in a few years (or less) SMU will address this and a handful of other "unidentifiable to fan" design flaws. This is probably top of the list since architectural plans already exist for an open club in that location.

Wow-seems a little overzealous enforcement to me. What's the difference if you are paying same price for beer on concourse?

Sorry. May not have been clear. This decision was made before they knew they were going to even sell beer on concourse. They originally planned for beer to only be available in the clubs (like in football). Subsequent to redrafting of architectural plans, smu sought tabc approval for coliseum wide beer sales.

Issue was not price but ability to distribute alcohol sold in a tabc designated club to non-club, "dry" area.

thats too bad . Seems like wasted space up there. Open up those walls and make it all open to the court.

You mean the PonyUp balcony, correct? Yes, that space needs to turned back into stands or turned into something where every inch of the coliseum is fan boisterous!
