He can recruit and he's not afraid to get a little dirty, see Indiana. I think it would be a good hire for Houston.

Not gonna happen. His agent probably started the rumor. UH will not hire someone with that kind of history.

They hired Tom Penders, who was embroiled in controversy at UT. I wouldn't close that door to quickly.

Different people running the show at UH these days than when Penders was hired. Chancellor Renu Khator is all class and has done great things to further the academic mission of the university. She will not hire someone that could soil the growing academic reputation of the school.

I know there is a lot of hating of UH and it's academics on this board, but it is well on its way to becoming a Tier 1 research university.

Renu believes winning in athletics is a big part of the equation of being tier one, so I wouldn't be so dismissive of Sampson. He is a proven winner, who has paid for his mistakes. Hopefully he has learned from his mistakes too. I know I would give him a chance as it has been five years since his transgressions, which at the end of the day amount to working too hard in recruiting. I think our fans would be ok with our football staff getting some sanctions for working the recruiting trail too hard.

Sampson just made one to many phone calls to recruits at IU. I think he will be fine now.

It is already a tier 1 research university. That's more like winning a contest tho than actually being a quality academic institution. UH has yet to separate themselves with UTSA, UNT and the like. But they will pass us in research because we don't share that goal with them. Baylor, TCU, SMU, Tech and others did not compete to be tier one (maybe Tech did). But having been at UTSA during that whole deal I can tell you they beat out UTSA and UNT. None of those schools can claim getting Texas's best students. But they are all doing better. Kudos. Talk to me when you are a top 150 national university (currently 190 on US News).

Uh, Houston sucks. The school is terrible. Plain and simple.

Also, I have a colleague who's an Indiana grad and he said if he saw Sampson on fire he wouldn't even [deleted] on him to extinguish the flames.

So, there's that.
