Hotel Pennsylvania (right across from MSG).

It's old and a little run down, but it's around 110 bucks/night and no cabs required.

Told NIT HQ hotel is Marriott Marquis, but it's 300/night.

Priceline is your friend in NYC. Have stayed in incredible hotels for 1/3 the price.

When I stay in the city for pleasure, I try to use my hotel points because a Class [x] hotel in NYC is often significantly more expensive than a Class [x] hotel in Peoria.

The Penn is a REALLY BAD IDEA!

As another poster said: Priceline is your friend. Look for a deal in the 3.5-4 star range and search midtown east, west, and downtown. You should be able to get something in the 150-200 per night range and it will be very nice. Getting around in the city is a breeze so don't mind staying all the way down in the financial district or across town on the East Side.

Hotel Penn is a nightmare. Basically staying in a shoebox. Then you have every tour group known to man coming through there, so the check in desk and lobby are a nightmare.

Brooklyn down the street from the Barclays center and an easy trip in the 2/3 subway line right to MSG:

The rooms are tiny but very clean. The neighborhood is very hip with lots to do and eat and getting to the Lower East Side, Soho, The Village etc is a breeze.

Just one thing: Brush up on your Russian before you go. The person working the desk will speak little to no English. It's never presented a problem and I max out at : "Nyet."

And it is the official hotel of the American Kennel Club for the Westminster Dog Show. If you are allergic you will die there.

If you want to stay next to MSG the Affinia Manhattan is good. Stayed there a couple times; about 50 steps from MSG.

If anyone's going to NYC and wants some seriously good food, check out Balthazar. It will require a cab ride because it's in Soho. Also, you may want to call ahead, they pack up fast.

...or another McNally restaurant: Schiller's Liquor Bar on the Lower East Side.

Just down the block on Essex towards Delancey is Tequileria. You can probably figure out what happens there.

Another of my favorites for Habenero Grapefruit Margaritas and mex is Barrio Chino on Broome. Place seats about 40 so be prepared to leave your phone number with them and grab a drink first in the neighborhood. one of the better tequila bars in the city.

Heard that's where the band is staying. Does anyone know where the team is staying?
