Nice interviews - thanks!

I kind of laughed at the rocket science reference.

Me too — it was hard to keep a straight face (and to hold the camera somewhat still) when he said it. Brown is such a humble coach, constantly acting as if he has never really accomplished anything extraordinary, as if his team has not yet accomplished anything. He still has a lot of goals he wants the team to accomplish, of course, but his humility for a guy with his résumé is sometimes hard to believe.

It's not rocket science. Sometimes these stat geeks just look at stats and not how they are playing to attain the stats. I like something else Coach Brown has said which is "stat sheets are what you roll up dead fish in" and he is right.

That's true — there is more to basketball (or any sport) than just stats. Shawn Williams doesn't fill up a stat sheet, but Larry Brown always sounds like he wouldn't give up Williams for anything. That said, if a player blows up a stat sheet every night, he's doing something right … right? Stats are not the ultimate determining factor in any player's ability, but they do indicate when someone is doing well. There's a reason that K.J. McDaniel is the first Clemson player the Mustangs have mentioned while talking about Clemson — he does everything, and apparently pretty well.

No, not necessarily. But I like how you stat geeks try to defend each other. The best example is how Larry Brown said that Princeton has good defensive stats but look at their style of play.
