ESPN Position battles: Point guards

Moore had a solid year for the Mustangs leading the team in scoring, assists and 3-point shooting while starting every game. He was first team all-conference in the American. Yet here comes Mudiay, who might be the most important recruit -- he’s certainly the highest ranked -- in SMU history. The 6-foot-5 Mudiay was ranked fifth overall by ESPN.com, and his time in Dallas could be limited to one season before he’s in the NBA. Point guard is the toughest position to play under coach Larry Brown, and Moore has had the luxury of learning his expectations for two years. Mudiay’s talent is so undeniable that the Mustangs might find a way to play both in the lineup.

I don't think this is technically a battle, as I believe Nic will play more off the ball and cross switch to guard the opponent's 1 on D.

Agree, Nic's shot is so good he can play as a shooting guard that also can run the point. There are going to be a lot of plays where they play off each other. This is going to be fun to watch.

I fully expect both to start and for one of them to be running point at any given time. That will be one of the biggest differences between the coming year and the last: We'll always have the ball in capable hands.
I do expect Nic will be taking more shots, especially when EM is running the point.
This has to be one of the very best guard combos in college ball next year.
I also love the love for Ben. He can be a major contributor next season.

I think Nic will run point more at the beginning of the year with EM playing Nick Russel's role, but as the year progresses and EM becomes more comfortable/experienced he will transition to the primary point guard with Nic being more of a shooting guard (which LB said on multiple occasions he would like for Nic to be able to do). Either way, there should NEVER be a time when both Nic and EM are on the bench.

No matter how it sorts itself out they will both obviously get a ton of minutes and it is going to be great for us to have that kind of flexibility.

Very tough to press with two great ball handlers on the floor. See Louisville last year.

Both will start, it's actually great to have 2 guys who know how to distribute the ball in the lineup, I will say this, wonder who will bring the ball up and start the offense, any ideas or guesses?

Both will start. IMO, Eman will have the ball as much as possible because the attention he will get from the defenses will create open looks for Nic, KF and the other guys. As long as he limits his TOs, we know LB doesn't tolerate that, Eman will be running the show. That said, I believe Eman and Nic will be one of the best backcourts in the country.
