Collins Becomes Third Australian To Sign With Mustangs For 2014-15 Season
6-5 center played with Froling sisters in Australian national program

May 29, 2014

DALLAS (SMU) - The Mustangs added a third player from the Australian national basketball program to the 2014-15 freshman class, signing Stephanie Collins, a 6-5 center from Melbourne, who represented Australia at the 2012 FIBA U17 World Championship for Women.

Collins follows the signing of Alicia and Keely Froling, a pair of 6-2 twins who also competed in the national program. The three girls were teammates for the Centre of Excellence team in Australia.

Playing for Victoria in the Australian state nationals, Collins captured gold in the U18 division in 2011, and earned a bronze in 2012. She competed in an international tournament in China in 2012, leading the Australian team to a 9-1 record against college teams from America.

"There is no question, signing a bigger post player was an area of need for us. Stephanie is a post with a presence in the paint, and she can run the floor. She completes a tremendous signing class for us this year," SMU head coach Rhonda Rompola explained.

"Not only have we signed players to fill roles we needed, we signed quality student-athletes who are proven winners," Rompola continued. "It's always a plus when you can sign players with international experience, especially three who have played together on the Australian National Team."

It would be worse to say that they aren't.

You have to be an older member of PFs to understand the gist of the golf statement.
