TECH WAS AN IMPORTANT GAME

...VERY IMPORTANT!

9,000 plus fans
tons of media attention (local mainly, was it on sportscenter etc?)
and major recruiting effects

I don't care what you say about non conference or whatever. This game was huge. Do you realize what effect a win would have had on attendance for the rest of the year? All viewers of local Dallas news would have seen not only that Bobby Knight is in town, but that the local SMU team sent him home with his first loss. The many recruits that were there (sitting right behind SMU's bench) watched SMU lose, which is never a good thing. Yes, they did see a packed house, but when and if they come back for another visit, they will see the real side of SMU fans, the empty seat.

So you are crazy if you say this game was not important. No it is not worth firing Dement over, but it was VERY IMPORTANT.

To recap, a win would have:
increased attendance (revenue)
helped our recruiting
given us more national coverage
given us positive local coverage
boosted our confidence for the upcoming season

Tech will prob be in the top 25 by next week - the score indicated a close game - Sportscenter gave SMU very favorable coverage. A win would have been huge, but wait - if we can beat Fresno and beat Tenn. SMU may be able to pull off a top 25 slot and a tourny bid if they keep their heads up.

Bob Knight is a hell of a coach and he has shaped up the red raiders. It was a close game, but a loss.
