Yeah, but he got hosed on the stats last night. The paper said he was credited with three blocked shots. I counted at least 5, maybe 6 or 7. The one where he went up for a block and cupped the ball in one hand, picking it clean out of the air, was amazing.
Don't know how he compares to Melvin Ely of Fresno State, but they have to be the two top shot-blockers in the WAC - and Simpson is only a freshman.
Before he's through, he's going to have the SMU record for career blocks, and might get the WAC record, too. He's so long and quick on the defensive end that his offense - which is pretty good for a freshman - is almost a bonus. He is a defensive star in the making, and the offense is coming around.
