SMU's Larry Brown tells Blue Ribbon, "with Mudiay, I think the team could have won a national championship. There is no doubt in my mind."

While I think what LB is saying is true, I wonder if this would be a question that deserves coach speak. We still have a top 25 team and great coaching. The team as created should be in the hunt for a deep tournament run. Maybe they won't win it because they are vulnerable to some bad match ups (length at the guard positions) but they can certainly compete for it.

yeah - its time to move on. He doesn't need to be dwelled on. I personally think he traded a dollar tomorrow for a dime today , but time will tell.

I hated that line b/c UCONN stunk last year and won a title. Maybe not stunk, but they sure were very flawed. We're less flawed tis year, even w/o Mudiay, than UCONN was last year.

This is a really good point. I believe 1-10 this season we are as talented as UConn's championship team. UConn was proof that strong guard play can take you deep into the tournament. I know Martin is considered a forward but he has a guard's skill set. Assuming Sterling and KF continue to improve, our backcourt can be tournament strong with Nic leading the way.

UConn wasn't even the 10th best team in the tournament. They got hot and rode a hot-hand combined with some uncharacteristically poor play by opponents they faced. Just a perfect storm. Might be the worse team to win the natty in the last 15 years.

There's no question in my mind that SMU this year is better than UConn was last year and with Mudiay it, it wouldn't even be a debate.

That's what LB always says: "you have to be as lucky as you are good"
