Men's BB Walk-On Tryouts

I suppose that coach is hunting for some practice players but am curious. My questions are all in reference to a Div. 1 program.
Are there preferred walk-ons in BB programs like I read about for football?
Is there a NCAA or conference limit on squad size?
How many are permitted on the traveling team?
Are there students identified as being of more than ordinary interest before the work outs?
Has there been, or will there be a similar event for the women's team?
FTR I remember walk-ons on the freshman BB team when I was in school long ago and IIRC one poster on ponyfans described himself as former practice player at SMU, but this is the first time I remember an announcement.
I do hope Pony Pride or another will report on this topic.
