Memphis sophomore Austin Nichols is expected to be sidelined about a week after suffering a shoulder injury in practice, a source told CBSSports.com on Tuesday.

Nichols suffered the injury in a two-on-two drill while working on post positioning, a source told CBSSports.com. The 6-foot-9 forward had an MRI performed on the shoulder late Tuesday. And though the results from that won't be available until Wednesday morning, a source close to the program is optimistic Nichols will be 100 percent for the Nov. 18 opener against Wichita State, which is ranked 11th in the preseason coaches poll.

Nichols averaged 9.3 points and 4.3 rebounds last season.

He was the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year.

Hope he's OK. I want all AAC teams kicking butt in non-conference play

Completely agree. I never like when guys go down hurt. I want every team to be at 100% to realize their potential with their full complement of players.

Speaking of Memphis, there's this quote in today's Memphis paper from Asst. Coach Aki Collins re: JUCO transfer Chris Hawkins: "“He needs to just play and not worry about the plays so much or where he’s supposed to be.”

Any you wonder why people say Pastner can't coach.

 And having the father of two players on staff should help too. Maybe they should change their name.
