No such thing as a must win game when you are one game 2 of the season. Will beating gonzaga at their place mean a lot for SMU? sure because it would signal that we are a really good team at the moment. But winning does not equal a tournament birth and losing does not eliminate SMU. The games I would consider must wins would be all our home games all the away games versus the bottom of our conference and a few wins from our games on the road against, Indiana, Michigan, Memphis, UCONN, and Cincy. If we do that we will make the tournament.

Whatever happens tonight (actually tomorrow morning for some of us) it will serve us well going forward.

Tough building, legit elite team, good coach, etc.

WE are at a distinct disadvantage here which is a good place to be this early in the season. It's called tuition.

These next two games will toughen us up for the tourney run in March and April.

So bring it.

Yep, win on the road vs ranked team would a huge resume builder,
and a springboard to the season.

we are ranked #22. if we expect to remain ranked, this is a must win. sometimes I feel some people are already expecting defeat and will say silly stuff like this lost builds character. winning builds more character.

I don't think that is true. A loss, especially a close loss, at the #13 team in the country would not drop us out of the top 25. This must win talk is ridiculous and honestly makes us look clueless.

It's not a "must win", but a loss will likely drop us out of the Top 25. That's just the way the polls work (and why they don't actually mean a whole lot this time of year, though I do like seeing our score every time through the NCAAM ticker). Enough teams ranked 26-35 will be undefeated 2 or 3 games in and will jump up if we don't win, even if we put up a fight.

Really good week of OOC games for SMU. Gonzaga and Indiana. When has SMU ever faced back to back opponents like that in OOC play? Probably been a while.
