Last year, SMU finished 320th out of 345 D1 schools in Three Point Field Goals Made per Game, averaging 4.7 per contest. We've made 11 after 2 games this season. With shooters like Keith, Nic and Ben E, we need to be attempting way more 3 Point shots. I'm calling Larry out for not making an offensive adjustment this off-season.

I think SMU was very low in 3 point attempts per game as well. I know that our offense runs through the low post first if possible and then back out. I don't think the 3 pointer shots are incorporated that much into our offense.

Seems both are about equal so far. The stats don't lie though. I don't think LB is a fan of the 3 point shoot.

Maybe Harry can pull up last year's 3 point defensive stats and rankings.

Will post while I eat lunch. At first glance it's okay. Opponents shot 32% from 3 against us last year (#61 in nation) vs. 34% this year.

I was suspecting that our 3 point attempts to go up this year with JMart and BenE (and a more confident KF?) but that hasn't been the case as of yet. I agree that our perimeter D is a bigger concern and that definitely will kill us this year (it might tonight). Last year, I blame that lack of D directly on the losses to Arky, UVA, and MN. (damn near cost us the same against Cal also). If we don't lock that down, I worry it will keep us out of the tourney again. I'd like to see Nic take about 6-7 per game depending and the rest of the team take about 10 total depending. Do that and a much stronger perimeter D and we beat Indy and quite a few other resume building games.

Pay attention to our Bigs and our wing players when they drive, they throw horrible passes to our perimeter shooters who are open for threes. As a result, the shooters barely catch the pass and by then the defense has recovered and the shooter is out of position to shoot the wide-open three. I've noticed this both in the Lamar game and versus Gonzaga. Ball movement is definitely an area in which we need to improve immediately!

It's hard for any team to lock down a good 3 point shooting team. You need to make a few yourself to counter things a bit. If you are making 2's and they are making some 3's it may not turn out to well. Larry Brown seems to like and one 3 point plays but who do we have that can get to the rack consistently?
