Reshuffle Seats / MOB

Postby ponydawg » Mon Dec 01, 2014 11:47 am

We all pretty much agree the MOB is lacking this year.
I fear when they reshuffle the seats you could see the same type of reaction from season ticket holders.

The rich alumni who can afford to buy tickets and give big donations probably will not show for the smaller games. Lots of empties last night and the red seats have always been an issue in the past.
Hope greed doesn't cost us anymore of our home court advantage.

Reshuffling an entire arena because a few alums that have deep pockets want to jump on the bandwagon 2 yrs late. Yep, sounds like a SMU thing to do. This will backfire big time.

This is exactly what will happen. Band wagon money alums will take over the seats and it will be a Cowboys game crowd. Sucks...SMU ruining everything atmosphere related in less than a year.

Had a convo with an SMU employee and some other guys about it last night. I think they understand how fine the line is here. Hoping they get it right. They have no intention to punish younger alums who got blocks of tickets with their friends, and things like that.

Then again, this is SMU. They have a knack for thinking about something long and hard, then doing whatever the money wants consequences be damned.

Or having a brain short circuit and implementing a blatant money grab........

SMU does not care about the fans. True fans come to games good or bad and do not get punished for supporting the team for when they have a good year or two. No one will show up when Moody is not the social place to be for the money wads.

EVERY school has alumni that give money AND every school has alumni that don't go to every game. We should be thankful to have alums that give, but encourage them to give their tickets to those who can use them to keep up a good game day experience. PLENTY of blue seats empty too, they are just not noticed as much due to lighting.

As to SMU pushing out the little guy, when the hell has SMU ever been good enough to push anyone out? Since when does SMU not care about fans? If you are saying they give the best seats to the people the pay the most money, welcome to LIFE.

Show up..cheer....rinse....repeat

The on court play is lacking this year, just like football you can't expect fans to just show up and cheer for a crap show. Sure it may work at historically significant program, but newsflash SMU hasn't been significant at any profit generating sport in a long time. Now is not the time to complain about fans who show up, we are walking a thin edge lets just be glad that we have the turnout we do for the time being.

The big hitting alums that financially support the programs already have seats that nobody can touch. These are the 2nd - 4th tier people who are now interested because of the "be seen" element from last year. It's total garbage - stop justifying it. I sat in that dump of an arena for years with maybe 500 people watching Doh's 5'1" PG. You are supposed to BUILD a fan base and not price out after one year in which we essentially accomplished nothing.

You'd be surprised. There are lots of people "stuck" in the blue seats who want in to Loge/100's badly. SMU is gonna let em have at it. The question is what they do with everyone else. I think they aren't going to screw this up, as I have said. But, it is SMU. They could screw it up in spectacular fashion and be shocked as to why people are mad.

I informed SMU athletics yesterday that if I was moved they would lose me as a season football and basketball ticket holder.

I don't mind paying more, reflected by supply and demand, but they are not going to move me to make room for others who have not been a season ticket holder longer than me, simply because they contribute more to MC than I do.

I'm currently a grad student and alum, technically I don't even have to have season football tickets to get into games. I teach high school for a living, I bet my contributions to the MC are proportionally more than some of these folks that are upset they did not get in on the ground floor.

If I'm forced to move, SMU athletics will not get another penny from me.

I'm a young alum who grabbed season tickets the year I graduated. I dropped football in protest of keeping June for another year. I'm fairly confident that our group of friends and young alum all with tickets in 206 will be booted and priced out. Damn shame.
