Gauchos coming to town

Postby Oldgaucho » Sun Dec 07, 2014 4:27 pm

Very excited for this game... Always exciting to see teams with Naismith candidates squaring off, even if they play diff positions. Can you guys slow down Big Al? Will Nic go off again? Who has the better supporting cast... Who prepared better.

You guys are the favorites, since it's at your place, but should be a great game.
Could totally see a easy win in either direction, but I expect a close game. We've got the best team we've had in decades, you are the hardest game left on our schedule.

What do we need to look for? Hopefully you don't have any 3 point sharp shooters. We can't defend them.

@Kansas, lost by only 10. Pretty good.

We shot over 50% (12-22) in our last game from the arc, with seven diff shooters hitting threes and one of our best shooters contributing only 1-5... But we shot less than 25% our first two games against Kansas and Florida gulf coast.. We're now 38% on the season, so we have some outside threats. Our outside threat combined with Big Al inside is why it's our best team in a long time.

ETA: big al is who you have to deal with.. Did you see his sports illustrated article? His feature spot in KenPom's blog for the past 2+ years? Averaging basically 20 and 13 when needed, less in blowouts.... Best post we've ever had, if he stays healthy, probably leaves as our all time leading rebounder, scorer and shot blocker... Short for a center at 6'8"... Doesn't shot threes though...

Bryson, Vincent, green and Harmon can all shoot the three decent. If we desperately need some three point shooting, you might see hart or ford... But not likely.

Watched that game twice. A very good team is coming to town. Need a full house.

I doubt our casual fan has any idea. Hopefully it's decent.

Big Al averages 21 and 11. He was the Big West conference POY last season. Big Yanick better be ready.

Michael Bryson is their second leading scorer. He shoots close to seven 3s a game. SB will probably have a some serious inside-outside action going with Big Al and Bryson.

I agree. This is one of those games where you can make $ on in Vegas.

We generally try to get everyone involved, focusing first on getting it to Al, 2nd on hitting the open three and third driving. We've waited three years to see john green play and he's been worth the wait. Vincent is only a freshman, but might be the best freshman in the conference ( missed the alaska tournament due to an infected foot blister). Bryson is streaky... If he's on, you probably lose.

Vincent was out with an infected foot blister, Bryson made a foolish foul and we ran a crappy play with less than five seconds left that led to Al attempting (and missing) his first three in his career. Not much shame in losing to an undefeated team, even if that team hasp payed crappy teams. (ETA: Bryson was 0-4 from outside... They played man)

Our three losses are to teams with a 20-2 record versus your three losses against 19-2, so I don't think we need to worry about who blew which game and why
