SMU Returns Home For Matchup With No. 5 Texas A&M on Tuesday

TEMPE, Ariz. (SMU) – Sophomore Kiara Perry had a career-high 16 points, but the SMU Mustangs could not hang on as Arizona State played a strong second half to win 77-42 on Saturday afternoon in Tempe, Arizona.
The Sun Devils (6-1) opened the game with an 11-0 run and prevented SMU (4-4) from scoring until 2:59 into the game. Perry would help keep the Mustangs close for most of the first period, scoring 12 of her 16 points in the opening half.
After Perry hit a jumper to cut Arizona State’s lead to 31-26, the Sun Devils closed the opening frame on a 9-0 run to take a 14-point advantage into the break. Arizona State didn’t let down, and pulled away with a 21-1 start to the second half.
Freshman Alicia Froling added 11 points join Perry as SMU’s double-digit scorers. Junior Gabrielle Wilkins collected a season-high 10 rebounds to go with seven points.
SMU will return home to Moody Coliseum to host No. 5 Texas A&M on Tuesday at 7 p.m. CT.
