For those wanting to fire Turner

Keep in mind that it was Turner who went with LB to the Provost when Frazier's incoming grades were questioned and said that SMU did the due diligence to make sure the transcript was valid and that Frazier should be allowed into school.

It is Turner who has a great reputation with the NCAA and is on several committees.

It is Turner who has a clean reputation to succeed without cheating. He is the one who would have made sure to do our due diligence to make sure we weren't doing anything wrong to get Keith in school.

I think Turner did his part to get Keith into school. And I think Turner did his part to make sure we didn't violate any rules.

If SMU is found to be not guilty on a lot of this stuff, I really do think the light shines brightly on Turner here. Just something to keep in mind when you are screaming to fire him...

I have always liked Turner, but I am also not familiar with the way things work behind closed doors.

As the parent of an SMU student with a passing interest in the athletics, I would be very upset if Turner were let go. He's been good for the school.

I understand that Turner is very pro-athletics while Ludden is not. It seems like a good balance. Ludden may be fed up with Turner and athletics, but he seems like he's been good for academics.

What is it about KF's high school transcript that SMU had control over? What about him not going to class? Turner nor Ludden should concern themselves with whether one student goes to class or not. Maybe just start paying the players if they think they're only in school to play. Where do you draw the line? Do golfers need to go to class? Or do just men's hoops and football players get a pass?

Love how JasonB makes the declarative statements of truth with no source stated but himself. As id he were there himself to witness it and not second or third hand info given to him. Who really know if Turner went to the Provost.

I do believe there is procedure for review of admissions decisions from the Committee to Provost to President. I bet it did go to Turner. We know for a fact it has happened in the past with June's conditional admissions

As someone who has never liked RGT, I had my mind changed following a discussion I had last month. Visiting a former professor that I still hold in very high esteem, the discussion turned to athletics and Turner. I will start by saying he is not a spanish teacher in any way, shape, or form...he is not anti-athletics at all but is a very stern adherent to the concept of personal responsibility and instilling the life lesson of adult responsibilities in students.

As he laid it out, the growth of this campus over the past 2 decades is directly linked to Turner. While not a big and public supporter of athletics, he has privately pushed donors for support that has led to the explosion on campus...you know, that place that looks nothing like it did when I was there just 13 short years ago! His attention to detail is legendary...if not annoying, but he has done a good job. When I heard that, I had to look into it more, but I really couldn't find anything concrete showing his stonewalling athletic issues.

All I am saying is, it looks like he has nothing to do with this issue of NCAA allegations. Only question is what did Maligi say to the HS teachers and counselors when Keith's grade was changed...and potentially what did LB know about that. Let's keep our eyes on the real prize, the next game on Saturday and the big recruiting visit weekend, and then work to make this an even better school.

Puckhead, that sounded like a very well thought-out, balanced and reasonable approach to Turner. As such, it has absolutely no business on this forum! Grab your damned pitchfork and prepare to storm the Admin building! :D

As a two-time alumnus with two children having graduated from SMU as well as a father, I will say that firing Turner would be good for the school.

Free Mr. Clark! Free Mr. Clark! Free Mr. Clark!

We can only pray North Korea hacks the NCAA email!

By the way, so all we allegedly did was pressure a teacher to raise a grade for a kid to help him get into college? That's it? That's all they got!!!! .... and this warrants an "investigation" ??? Comical. SMU, please sue the NCAA for malicious selective prosecution or call the Wolf.

balanced but meaningless. So one particular professor, luke warm on athletics, likes Turner and that defines your opinion?
