Warren Young - Bowing Question

Postby PonyTime » Sat Jan 24, 2015 10:55 am

Have been meaning to ask this - what is the story with the players coming off the floor and doing the Bow to Warren (athletic Trainer)?

Don't recall seeing this last year. Just interested in the story...

I have only noticed MK doing it. Do they all? I have wondered about it also.

Yes - usually MK. Perhaps just MK.

Thought they all did it. Warren is a funny guy so it's probably just some schtick he came up with in the training room. Some sort of inside joke. Looks funny on TV when they catch it

I thought the Warren guy kind of resembled Buddha and it was a joke of that nature as if bowing to Buddha.

They showed Markus doing it when he came out of the Tulane game. It made one of the announcers laugh.

Ok maybe just MK. WY has always had good rapport with the athletes going back to the Rossley days. Hope he lasts a long time at SMU.

It's just MK and they've been doing it since last year.

Warren Young is a straight pimp and always has been. Ability to build and foster relationships is second to none. Best bid decision we ever made. We were lucky to have him.

Just asked Warren about it. Seems it was started last year when SMU was playing games at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland. Warren and Markus Kennedy became pretty close when Warren was helping Kennedy through an injury, and after Kennedy had a good game, he bowed to Warren to be funny. But since he played well, he continued it, and it has grown. Now he does it at every game, and Warren bows back to Kennedy.

Thanks for asking about it - thought it might be some sort of supersticion or something.

Then I talked to Markus about it, and he laughed, saying he didn't even remember how it started. When reminded of what Warren said, he remembered … sort of, saying "it seems to be working, so we'll keep doing it."
