Last week I posted the video of Wilfongs dunk on my Facebook for all to see. My dad, who has Facebook only to see pics of his grandkids, sent me this Paul Harvey-esque email. I haven't verified, but pretty cool six degrees of separation story. I was born in Lincoln, IL..

Last week I saw the video you posted with the kid by the name of Wilfong.  Back in the early 50's there was a guy named Win Wilfong that played high school basketball in a small southeast Missouri town named Puxico.  He then went to Missouri, followed by Memphis.  I remember seeing him play on television for the then St. Louis Hawks, and Cincinnati Royals.

He later died in Lincoln, IL.  Win was a brother to the grandfather of the guy now on S.M.U.

Slightly OT but Wilfong has impressed me of late. Not just the steal/dunk but he has put distance between himself and the other bench warmers. When we send them in I have confidence in him.

Three Wilfongs played for the Tigers: Win, 1955-57; Gene, 1959-61; and John 1983-87.

Win and Gene were brothers, John is Gene's son and Jonathan's father. Win was the first Memphis All American and played in the NBA.

I retweeted his dunk on Twitter. The way the whole team celebrated together had to have strengthened the team bond.
