Mustangs Edged By UCF, 61-57
Froling, Hives-McCray Record Double-Doubles In Loss

Jan. 25, 2015

DALLAS (SMU) – Alicia Froling and Destynee Hives-McCray each recorded a double-double, but the SMU women’s basketball team fell to UCF, 61-57, on Sunday afternoon at Moody Coliseum.

SMU (4-15, 0-8 The American) was led by Froling, who recorded 18 points and 11 rebounds. The double-double was the freshman’s third of the season. Hives-McCray posted 11 points and 11 boards, marking the third time this season that the Mustangs have had two players record double-doubles in a game.

Gabrielle Wilkins also reached double figures, adding 11 points, and Kiara Perry recorded a career-high nine assists.

UCF (7-12, 3-5 The American) carried a 28-25 lead into halftime, despite shooting just 26 percent from the field in the opening half.

Early in the second half, the Mustangs took their first and only lead of the game at 33-30. However, the Knights answered with a big run to pull ahead by double digits with less than 10 minutes remaining.

However, the Mustangs would answer with a run of their own to pull within four in the final minute, but the Knights would hold on for the close victory.

Zykira Lewis, the conference’s leading scorer, led UCF with 18 points, despite shooting just 25 percent from the field.

SMU returns to the road for a matchup with Tulsa on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 7 p.m. CT.

I saw them play once and I was astounded at the lack of quality.

How about promoterhonda.com. She has done a lot of good for the program, but we definitely need a change. Move her into and Asst. AD or something similar and bring in a new coach.

I was just trying to be hip and funny. Also it looks like a Honda ad.

No. Just let it ride... just leave the women's sports in the quagmire. They're fine where they are.

I had the same question. Seem Rhonda is plateaued out and the program is stagnant.

Watched the entire UConn game earlier this year. We were totally not competitive, but so has everyone else they have played including ranked teams. She has been good for the program and has been a good ambassador; however, it is time she moves to the front office and we get a coach who can recruit.

We won CUSA in 2013. This is not so much a plateau as the bottom of a cliff. Outside of UConn and USF, the competition isn't much different either.

It all changed when we cut down the nets.

Rhonda is one of the few coaches who is an SMU graduate, she is family. Years when football and men's basketball were both terrible, Ronda's team would go to end of the year tournaments. Just about all we had to cheer for. I'm not ready to give up on Rhonda as of yet.
I like to see the 3 tall Australian women muscle up. then again they are only freshman.
