Rick Herrscher To Be Inducted In Southwest Conference Hall of Fame
Herrscher Was A Member Of the 1956 Final Four Team

WACO – Former SMU Mustang Rick Herrscher will be inducted as a member of the 2015 class for the Southwest Conference Hall of Fame, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame announced Thursday.
Herrscher, who was a guard and forward for SMU, was a member of the 1956 NCAA Final Four team. He was honored as the SWC Player of the Year in 1957-58 after averaging 17.5 points and 7.4 rebounds. The Mustangs won three SWC championships (1955-56, 1956-57, 1957-58) while Herrscher was playing. As a junior and senior, Herrscher was named All-SWC First Team.
The St. Louis native was also the leading hitter and RBI man for the SMU baseball team. After graduation, he played professional baseball for five seasons, ending his career in the big leagues in 1962 with the New York Mets.
Herrscher was inducted into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame on May 3, 2013.
Herrscher is joined in class with Bill Montgomery (Arkansas), Cotton Davidson (Baylor), Carol Lewis (Houston), Jose Cruz Jr. (Rice), Eric Metcalf (Texas), Curtis Mills (Texas A&M), Lance Brown (TCU) and Dan Irons (Texas Tech).
The SWC Hall of Fame is sponsored by the Texas Sports Hall of Fame. The induction ceremony is on Monday, March 30, at 11:30 a.m. CT at the Hilton Hotel in Austin Texas.
