Update at 4:41 p.m.: Former SMU basketball star and NBA center Jon Koncak said Tuesday that he helped uncover a Disney investment ruse and went to the FBI after losing money.
Koncak testified during the federal fraud trial of Thomas W. Lucas Jr., who is accused of forging documents and altering photos to trick investors into buying land near Celina.
Koncak, who played for the Atlanta Hawks for a decade, said the more than $2 million he lost was used to pay for land option contracts. The option fees gave him and other investors the right to buy the land for a specific price before a certain date — usually between 30 and 90 days
