Seven Nation Army

Played 0 times tonight. The students chanted it twice in the second half without the music playing. Why won't the DJ play it? How can we ensure it's played 3-4x a game? I'm sick of this. The crowd is so quiet out of timeouts.

In my mind there is nothing wrong with saving it for big spots in tight games. Makes it more special. Plus it was awesome when the students did it themselves.

The chant tonight was epic and better than the song itself.

The timeout UConn took at 8:16 with us up 22 was the perfect time for 7NA but we got a snoozer from the band.

Not anti-band but a big swing and miss on an otherwise decent night from game programming.

And yes, great work from the students to just start it on their own. Awesome!

I'm pro band but I thought the biggest crowd killing part of the night was when the band played YMCA. Much better to play the real version of that song anyways, but the crowd noise really died.

Agreed. And I was sitting with people pushing their 70s...who also questioned the band song selection.

Until the Band can get rid of their martyrdom complex and engage the rest of the SMU community in an honest conversation, I really don't see a solution. Crowd died when the band played all night...music comes on and students/crowd start hopping. This is a problem.

And I clap every freaking second when the band plays, so spare me that nonsense...

The person responsible for game programming should be unemployed at this point. Fans carried the game tonight.

Additionally,

Band dress like children at a 4th grade school in England.

Stubborn adherence to the jazzy hits of the 50s and 60s.

Really [deleted] attitude. Once again, connected to this martyrdom complex. I really fail to see what battle you win with this fight? Does anybody think you prove your point by looking and acting in a petulant manner?

Making yourselves Pariahs is not helping anything.

i like the traditions they carry - its important to keep some of them - but the music is in dire need of update and upgrade.

I agree with Gostangs. The music and the band uniforms are in a need for an update. Dressing like Jazz musicians from the 40s is simply strange 75 years later.
How about this:
Before the game: perform your recitle music and whatever else scratches the creative itch.
During the game: play the fight song and other up beat tunes to keep the team / fans fired up and engaged. Isn't this why college bands exists.
After the game: plat Varsity and call it a night.

But the uniforms for the 40s and the big band music during the games has to go.
